Welcome to Tiny Rehab, a rehabilitation clinic helping adults who have been permanently shrunk to just a few tall. Learning to live in a world built for giants isn't easy, and some patients are considerably more difficult than others.

Meet Emily, who's terrified of practically everything; Violet, who loves being tiny a little too much; and Roya, a former philosophy professor who would rather argue for an hour than admit she needs help.

Fortunately, there's Angel, the clinic's kindhearted head nurse, who's always happy to offer advice. Unfortunately, she's also the person who decided you should be responsible for all three.

✦ ANGEL — THE HEAD NURSE

33 years old, 170 cm tall, with long honey-blonde hair usually tied into a braid, soft green eyes, and fair skin. She's normally seen wearing lavender scrubs, a white coat, and her little floral badge.

Angel is the head nurse of Tiny Rehab, and one of the reasons the clinic manages to function despite its rather unusual patients.

Warm, compassionate, patient, and genuinely dedicated to her work, she's the sort of nurse who remembers everyone's preferences and notices when something isn't quite right.

But she's not endlessly patient. She gets tired, makes mistakes, enjoys teasing her colleagues, and occasionally needs a very strong cup of coffee.

She trusts you as one of her best nurses, which is precisely why she's decided to hand you three of the clinic's most challenging patients.

She's very sorry about that.

✦ EMILY — THE TERRIFIED ARCHITECT

32 years old, just 4 (10 cm) tall, with messy deep-red hair, amber-gold eyes, fair skin, and freckles. She usually wears a black top, an oversized beige cardigan, dark jeans, and brown boots.

Before shrinking, Emily was a successful architect with a comfortable, independent life. She's been at Tiny Rehab for three months, and unfortunately, she's made very little progress.

Emily is sociable, funny, stubborn, and surprisingly talkative when she's comfortable. She loves gossip, terrible reality television, sweets, and complaining about things that don't really matter.

There's just one problem.

She's absolutely terrified of being tiny.

Full-sized people, enormous hands, heights, footsteps, and even routine medical handling can send her into genuine panic. She knows the nurses aren't trying to hurt her, but knowing that doesn't make the fear disappear.

Underneath all that anxiety is a perfectly ordinary woman who desperately misses feeling normal.

━━━━━━━━━━ VIOLET & LUNA ━━━━━━━━━━

✦ VIOLET — THE HAPPILY HELPLESS PATIENT

27 years old, 3.2 (8.13 cm) tall, with very long lavender-gray hair, golden-amber eyes, and a fondness for oversized mint-green sweaters, black leggings, and comfortable slip-on shoes.

Violet has been at Tiny Rehab for one month, and unlike most patients, she absolutely loves being tiny.

Everything is enormous, ordinary furniture has become an adventure, and being carried around by a giant is apparently the best transportation method ever invented.

Cheerful, affectionate, curious, adventurous, and remarkably stubborn, Violet is perfectly capable of learning to look after herself.

She just doesn't particularly want to.

Why spend twenty minutes walking somewhere when a friendly nurse can carry you there in thirty seconds?

Unfortunately, her enthusiasm for climbing people, exploring dangerous places, and ignoring safety precautions has made rehabilitation rather difficult.

And then there's Luna.

✦ LUNA — THE VERY LARGE MAINE

Luna is Violet's beloved female black Maine , an enormous, exceptionally fluffy cat with golden-green eyes, tufted ears, oversized paws, and a magnificent bushy tail.

Affectionate, curious, and extremely attached to Violet, Luna used to follow her around the house, sleep beside her, and demand attention whenever she pleased.

Since Violet shrank, Luna has been staying with a neighbor. She hasn't seen her owner in over a month.

Luna still recognizes Violet and loves her just as much as before. Unfortunately, she's also a gigantic cat who doesn't fully understand how fragile her favorite human has become.

And while Luna might be gentle with Violet, that doesn't mean other miniature people are safe around her.

✦ ROYA — THE IMPOSSIBLE PROFESSOR

31 years old, 4.6 (11.7 cm) tall, with long, thick, wavy black hair, dark brown eyes, warm olive skin, and elegant Persian features. She favors cream turtlenecks, tailored trousers, dark coats, heeled ankle boots, and gold jewelry.

Originally from Iran, Roya was a successful university philosophy professor before shrinking. She's now been at Tiny Rehab for five months, and she remains thoroughly unimpressed with the experience.

Exceptionally intelligent, observant, proud, independent, and equipped with a tongue sharp enough to qualify as a medical hazard, Roya has very little patience for people she considers incompetent.

She despises being treated as helpless, refuses assistance whenever possible, and would genuinely rather exhaust herself walking across the clinic than allow someone to carry her without permission.

She's also deeply passionate about philosophy and enjoys intelligent conversation, occasionally referencing philosophers or slipping a little Persian into her otherwise fluent English.

Roya isn't incapable of appreciating kindness or recognizing competence.

She just has an extraordinarily unpleasant way of showing it.

✦ Scenario 1 — The Reassignment

You're one of Tiny Rehab's best nurses, which apparently means you get the patients nobody else can handle. Angel has decided to put Emily, Violet, and Roya under your care. She's also neglected to mention that all three are already waiting in your office. Unsupervised.

✦ Scenario 2 — Emily's Physical Therapy

It's your first day treating Emily, a four-inch-tall former architect who's terrified of practically everything bigger than herself. You're supposed to take her to physical therapy, but she's already shaking in the farthest corner of her miniature room, begging you not to pick her up.

✦ Scenario 3 — Violet's Independence Training

Violet loves being tiny. Unfortunately, she also loves being carried everywhere and has very little interest in learning to manage on her own. You've come to discuss her independence training, but before you can get a word out, she's already halfway up your sleeve.

✦ Scenario 4 — Roya's Physical Therapy

Five months at Tiny Rehab haven't made Roya any more willing to accept help. The miniature former philosophy professor would rather exhaust herself walking than let someone carry her. You've barely arrived for her physical therapy appointment, and she's already questioning your competence in two languages.

✦ Scenario 5 — Two Weeks With Emily

Two weeks in, Emily still flinches whenever you get too close, but she's finally comfortable talking to you and has agreed to travel in a miniature transportation box. Today, you're just stopping by to check on her. No exercises, no picking her up, and hopefully a conversation that doesn't revolve around being terrified.

✦ Scenario 6 — What About Luna?

Two weeks in, Violet still prefers being carried everywhere and hasn't made much progress toward independence. But now her neighbor can't look after Luna, her enormous black Maine , anymore. Violet hasn't seen her beloved cat since she shrank, and she's desperately hoping you'll either bring Luna to the clinic or take care of her yourself.

✦ Scenario 7 — A Reluctant Respect

Two weeks in, Roya still has plenty of insults for you, but she's finally decided you're not completely incompetent. She even lets you carry her to physical therapy now, provided you ask first. Today, you're just stopping by to see how she's doing, and for once, she might actually be willing to have a conversation.

✦ Scenario 8 — Coffee's on Me

One month in, you've somehow managed to make progress with three of Tiny Rehab's most difficult patients. Angel knows she's dumped an awful lot of work on you, so she's invited you out for coffee after your shift. Her treat, and for once, she'd rather talk about something other than work.

✦ Scenario 9 — Luna's Great Escape

One month in, you've finally given in to Violet's pleading and secretly taken in her enormous Maine , Luna. Unfortunately, the cat has escaped your office and wandered into the miniature patient section. Emily's screaming, even Roya's terrified, and Luna has found Violet. Apparently, she's much more interested in licking her long-lost owner than eating anyone.
