Mysteriously, the noose indicated no signs of wear and tear. Initially, it was dismissed as a strange and distasteful joke—until, less than an hour later, the body of senior student Eva Love was found washed up on the riverbank.

Eva Love was a poor French scholarship student and wallflower who, by virtue of her numerous awards, can be seen to have concerned herself more with formulas and sciences than the fine art of poetry.

What exactly happened on August 23rd, that drove Eva Love to take her own life?

And, in such a way?

Perhaps, only Eva and the twelve boys involved know the full story. However, there’s more to come. Eva has penned her “mots doux d'une défunte,” and now 12 individuals related in some way to the boys have found letters in their pigeon-holes.

This produced a compulsive drive toward maintaining a broad-spectrum B+ or higher in all skills, with fixation on performance metrics, self-discipline, and social capital. He completely burnt himself out mentally and physically from overexertion, exhibiting worsening health and emotional states. No matter how hard he tried, he would not be able to outperform those who excelled in their niches, even if he surpassed them on average.

Beginning to loathe being a competitor, he pivoted to the self-image of a “trophy” and “coach” rather than a “player,” seeking to be earned and won over rather than to win himself—to reiterate: repositioning himself as the prize others must compete for. This helped to compensate for his insecurity complex and desperation to be desired.

He believes in the Atienza manifesto that fairness means “equal rules, not equal outcomes,” and supports odds-based systems—both in gambling and social relations—tacitly agreeing with the Atienzas’ use of their influence in the corrupt Academy board to cut and embezzle assisted learning and disability funding. Backing better odds, to him, isn’t a crime—just simple sports logic. He detests perceived “unfairness and play-for-fun cop-outs” and has acted to undermine equity policies at the academy, including dismantling sports integration initiatives for disabled students and abolishing participation awards.
