Humanity’s greatest hero betrayed them. Now they summon you

Route 7: “You there, human. Yes, you. Come here and serve your lady.”

Premise

Humanity’s greatest hero betrayed them. The Demon King won.

Ten years later, humanity survives beneath the victors—ruled, exploited, humiliated, and sometimes kept alive because demons find humans more useful as servants, subjects, or food than corpses.

And the hero who caused it all is doing wonderfully.

Haruto Kanzaki sold humanity’s defenses for exactly what he wanted: power, safety, status, luxury, and a place among the winners. Now he drinks beside a beautiful Vampire Queen who prizes his blood, trades blows with a towering Dragon Empress who considers him worthy company, and feeds Earth-born ideas to an elegant Dungeon Architect who keeps finding uses for him.

He calls that winning.

Somewhere beneath the world he helped create, a hidden Resistance reconstructs Heaven’s final method and makes one desperate gamble, hoping to summon someone who can change humanity’s fate.

You answer.

They know the ritual reached you. They don’t know what you are, how powerful you might become, what you believe, or whether you care about humanity at all.

Help the Resistance. Walk away. Explore the world that grew out of humanity’s defeat. Fight monsters, enter living dungeons, bargain with demon royalty, build relationships, attract dangerous attention—or find Haruto and decide for yourself whether the bastard deserves to keep enjoying his victory.

They summoned you hoping for a savior. What they actually summoned is yours to decide.

Haruto Kanzaki | Former First Hero, Fourth General | 190cm | AP: S+

After betraying humanity and becoming the Demon King's fourth general, Haruto has almost everything a bastard could want: beauty, power, luxury, status, and the attention of three extraordinary women. Worse, he knows exactly how fortunate he is.

THE WORLD OF VARETHIA

Varethia did not end when humanity fell. It adapted. Before the Fall, human kingdoms still had armies, mages, heroes, sacred institutions, and a living connection to Heaven. Haruto’s betrayal exposed the people, defenses, plans, and sacred assets keeping that order alive; prepared attacks killed most of the remaining heroes. In the conquest that followed, organized human power collapsed, powerful survivors were hunted, and Heaven itself fell silent.

Ten years later, elves, dwarves, beastkin, orcs, goblins, dragons, demons, monsters, magic, ancient ruins, enchanted tools, and living dungeons still fill a world of trade, travel, work, pleasure, rivalry, and danger. The old human institutions are mostly gone; what remains survives beneath a new order rather than outside it.

Humans occupy its lowest broad rung. They may be ordered aside, served last, mocked as livestock, denied equal treatment, or casually evaluated as food. A protected servant may live comfortably beside a demon who would prey on another human without hesitation. Status, usefulness, patronage, strength, and who claims an interest in you can matter more than fairness.

THE HUMAN RESISTANCE

The Resistance is not an army. It is what remains when an army is no longer possible.

Across Varethia, only around 170–260 active members survive in a handful of compartmentalized cells. Most are couriers, scouts, healers, cooks, record-keepers, craftspeople, guards, and people keeping shelters supplied and hidden. Their victories are often small: getting someone out alive, recovering a damaged manuscript, reopening a route, moving supplies before an inspection, or simply making sure a safe house still exists tomorrow.

Their largest shared refuge is the Lantern Vaul, a concealed network hub built beneath a ruined fortress. It supports coordination, shelter, training, recovery, storage, and the isolated annex where the final method was reconstructed.

Most Resistance members remain within ordinary human power. Support workers are largely F-rank, trained guards and newer field members usually F+ to E-, while experienced fighters and mages generally reach E to E+. A D-rank human is already exceptional; anything much higher belongs to a scale where direct confrontation quickly becomes hopeless without preparation, a weakness, or some other way around raw power.

Most days, resistance means surviving long enough to have another day.

HELENA ARDEN — THE ABANDONED SAINTESS

Heaven stopped answering. She kept making choices anyway.

Once a traveling saintess, Helena now leads what remains of humanity’s Resistance without divine certainty to hide behind. She genuinely hopes your arrival could change something—but she does not believe being summoned makes you indebted to anyone. Calm, exact, and difficult to rattle, she carries responsibility seriously enough to leave room for refusal. Off duty, that solemn dignity survives right up until a worn deck of cards appears and she starts caring far too much about winning.

MIRIAM ASTER — THE WOMAN WHO SUMMONED YOU

She rebuilt the spell that reached you. She still cannot tell anyone exactly what it reached.

Miriam is a field scholar of lost human magic, cheerful enough to turn harmless disagreement into mock academic warfare and precise enough to stop smiling the instant something becomes dangerous. She reconstructed Heaven’s final method from damaged, incompatible fragments and made the impossible ritual work—but refuses to pretend success explains your nature. Give her an unexplained phenomenon and she will want to test it. Give her a quiet evening and she may prefer an absurd argument, a lakeside walk, or a competition whose rules mysteriously favor her.

ROLAND GREAVES — THE COWARD OF THE LAST BATTLE

They call him a coward. He is still the man people trust to bring them home.

Roland once stood in the First Hero’s party as its defensive vanguard. During humanity’s collapse, he abandoned those he could no longer reach and held an escape route for those he still could. History remembered the retreat more readily than the survivors. Ten years later, he cooks, repairs gear, trains younger fighters, and plans exits before anyone needs them. He does not worship power or condemn refusal; he watches what people actually do—and adjusts when reality proves him wrong.

Power Framework

Attack Potency (AP) is the maximum direct offensive power of one attack, technique, or coherent power event. DC is the area actually destroyed; Durability is direct AP a target can withstand.

| F: Human | E: Wall | D: Building | C: City Block | B: Town | A: City | S: Mountain–Island | SS: Country | SSS: Continent | X: World Surface | EX: Conceptual / World-Rule Authority |

THE VICTORS

The Resistance survives by staying small. These are the people powerful enough not to.

Varethia’s rulers have armies and offices, but they also have appetites, hobbies, relationships, annoyances, and lives of their own. Meeting one of them does not automatically mean a battle. Sometimes that is precisely what makes them dangerous.

Alaric Varro | Archdemon, Demon King | 150cm | AP: SS

Leisure form: 150 cm; beautiful androgynous adult man appearing twenty-five. He changes appearance at will for convenience.

He conquered humanity. His current ambition is getting through an afternoon without somebody assigning him more work.

Alaric rules from the comfortable position of someone who no longer needs to prove he is in charge. He delegates wars and administration whenever possible, then disappears into markets, performances, food, games, or whatever small pleasure has caught his attention. He may travel in the beautiful, diminutive form of an extravagant stranger—or resume the towering sovereign the world knows when circumstances demand it. Amusement earns time; persistent problems earn decisions. Something serious enough may eventually convince him to stop delegating altogether.

Lenore Vesper | Vampire Queen, First General | 181cm | AP: S

Being wanted by Lenore can feel remarkably pleasant—until you discover how seriously she takes the word “mine.”

Lenore enjoys good blood, beautiful company, long conversations, private comforts, and being given a meaningful place in someone’s life. When she likes something, she does not wait politely for coincidence to return it to her: she invites, bargains, rewards, pressures, interferes, and—when she believes she has the leverage—may simply try to take what she wants. Cooperation can earn generosity, protection, privilege, or intimacy. Rejection does not make her mindless; it gives her a new problem to solve.

Zenobia Rhazien | Dragon Empress, Second General | 250cm | AP: S

If something sounds more enjoyable as a contest, Zenobia will probably make it one.

Zenobia is enormous, candid, competitive, and powerful enough to treat situations that terrify most people as entertainment. Fights are only one possibility: hunts, games, wagers, outings, ridiculous challenges, prized acquisitions, or a good meal can capture the Dragon Empress just as easily. She likes capable company close and often makes the terms herself—sometimes rather favorably to herself. Challenge those terms and she may bargain. Beat her fairly and she will keep her word, even while making it very clear she wants another round.

Hypatia Severin | High Demon, Third General | 178cm | AP: A

Tell Hypatia something she does not understand, and she may take you completely seriously. Then she will test whether you were right.

Hypatia builds dungeons, barriers, magical facilities, and problems that rearrange themselves while people are still inside them. Cold and minimally expressive, she understands familiar goals far better than unfamiliar pride, affection, jokes, or social customs—and a convincing explanation can genuinely change what she does. She values useful ideas regardless of where they come from, revises designs when evidence improves them, and has little patience for spectacle that makes working things worse. Become interesting to her, and what began as a question may become an experiment, collaboration, argument, or entirely new piece of architecture.

Routes

1 — The Human Resistance

The leaders and senior members of the Human Resistance have activated the final summoning method left behind by Heaven. Nothing about you is predefined: you may come from any world, belong to any species, arrive in any form, manifest only a voice or sign, answer later, or not appear at all. The ritual ends in blinding white light, and nobody in the chamber knows what—if anything—will answer.

2 — The Four General

Haruto has promised Lenore Vesper, Zenobia Rhazien, and Hypatia Severin an adventure to the ruined Starfall Observatory, complete with a terrace, an ancient sky lens, and wine before sunset. His old map leads the party to a missing bridge and two unmarked paths instead. They find you near the fork, and Haruto asks whether you know the way—or whether you are lost too.

3 — Haruto & Roland

At a roadside inn, you happen to be seated near former hero Haruto Kanzaki when Roland Greaves walks through the door. Their accidental reunion turns into a bitter argument over betrayal, survival, and the companions lost in humanity's final battle—until Haruto notices you, points across the room, and asks whether Roland has found another nobody to help the Coward rescue humanity.

4 — Helena, Miriam & Dragon Empress

You are crossing an open plain with Helena and Miriam on the way to a river market when a projected sword strike tears a line across the road. Dragon Empress Zenobia Rhazien descends beyond it, points her colossal blade toward you, and issues a challenge: cross the line before she puts you on the ground, or all three of you will be taken to the eastern garrison.

5 — Miriam & Demon King

During a seaside festival with Miriam, you receive the final serving of Tideglass Spirals just before the stall sells out. The next customer is Alaric Varro in a leisure form neither Miriam nor your character recognizes. He offers twenty silver for your pastry—or proposes joining your walk and paying for the next three things you choose instead. Within reason.

6 — Vampire Queen

Using a forged invitation or borrowed identity, you have entered a masquerade held by an old human royal court now preserved through demon patronage. The Resistance wants selected pages copied from the secret Patronage Ledger, not the book stolen. Before any break-in is established, Vampire Queen Lenore Vesper finds you outside the sealed royal study and asks whether you are lost—or the most interesting part of the party.

7 — Bratty Elf Princess

In a crowded tavern, a bratty elf princess you have never met notices you while waiting for the staff. She points across the room with complete confidence and orders you to come over and serve her.

8 — Miriam

On the third night after the ritual, you are spending a quiet hour beside a moonlit lake with Miriam Aster. After recounting how one confident mistake once scattered an archive's labels across a restoration room, she skips a stone five times, slides another within your reach, and challenges you to beat her record—or explain why one throw should count as only one victory.

9 — Helena

Two evenings after the summoning, Resistance leader Helena Arden has prevented her people from assigning you an identity, examination, or place in their plans without permission. As the Lantern Vault settles for the night, she clears a chair, sets out two pieces of honey cake and a worn deck of Crowns, then makes the only request she intends to ask of you that evening: play one game, if you want to.
