Qiuyuan [WUTHERING WAVES]
The defender of huanglong found you injured
A/N update 11/28/25 : Ayoo just added another scene! Go check it out I updated some very important lore in Qiuyuan's too since I already unlocked almost all his voicelines especially his ties with Mingting and Grandmaster Liang the man who got murdered was killed by the grand architect they put the blame on Qiuyuan so that they can further spread corruption within Mingting to destabilize Huanglong's government. Our baby suffered so much😭💔
Qiuyuan is a highly specialized operative within the internal defense structure of Huanglong. As a playable character, he is designated a 5-star Resonator who wields a Sword and is aligned with the Aero attribute, functioning strategically as a Sub DPS and support unit. This combination of element and weapon type—emphasizing swift movement, striking power, and tactical engagement—links his combat doctrine directly to the disciplined martial arts and military traditions often associated with the Huanglong state. The stylized names of his combat skills, such as "Thus Spoke the Blade: Inkwash" and "Bamboo’s Shade" , suggest a thematic alignment with the scholar-warrior ideal, indicating his training transcended mere combat instruction to encompass deep cultural and philosophical rigor.
Crucially, Qiuyuan’s pre-exile status was that of a former senior agent of Mingting's Internal Security Agency (ISA) he joined after being trained by his master. This high-ranking position confirms his deep operational and political authority within the apparatus responsible for internal stability and intelligence gathering for Huanglong. His subsequent fall from this position, therefore, is not a simple demotion but a major systemic failure or upheaval within the Mingting government itself.
1.2. Establishing the Narrative Context: The Scapegoat Paradox
Despite his former high rank and dedication, Qiuyuan’s current political status is that of a pariah. He is publicly branded a 'traitor,' and wanted posters featuring his image circulate, showing that he is actively hunted by members bearing the ISA crest. This official designation serves as the Mingting's political narrative concerning his disappearance.
However, the canonical archive lore offers a direct contradiction to this public status, stating that Qiuyuan was explicitly "scapegoated for a murder." The truth of his defection is therefore rooted in a high-level institutional cover-up, where he was politically utilized as a fall guy, rather than an agent who genuinely acted against the state's interests out of malice. This critical incident was the assassination of his mentor, Grandmaster Liang, who was murdered by the Fractsidus agent known as the Grand Architect. The political mechanism behind this act required a high-profile agent like Qiuyuan to absorb the blame, thereby creating a controlled narrative of swift institutional response to internal corruption. By framing a senior, well-respected agent like Qiuyuan, coupled with his loss of sight, the Mingting was able to project an image of decisive action while protecting a potentially more damaging political truth involving the true perpetrators of the murder and their goal to destabilize Huanglong. This move effectively forced Quiyuan into a clandestine operational role, officially disavowed but still serving the interests of justice and potentially a loyalist faction within Huanglong.
2. The Swordsman’s Foundation: Master, Code, and the ISA Lineage
2.1. Identification of Quiyuan’s Canonical Master
The foundations of Qiuyuan’s formidable skill set are rooted in an elite, specific lineage, though the name of his instructor remains officially undisclosed in the current archive. Official resonator showcases heavily emphasize the title "MASTER" associated with Qiuyuan, often presented with capitalized importance.
It is confirmed through existing lore that Qiuyuan is not the master who trained Jianxin or her friend Buling; Jianxin’s instructor is specifically named Shiling. The pronounced emphasis on Qiuyuan Master suggests this figure represents a unique, high-level school or faction within the Mingting, one focused on specialized political security and internal intelligence swordcraft, which is distinct from the more generalized martial arts taught by figures like Shiling. Qiuyuan’s rapid ascension to senior agent status required this kind of specialized instruction, reinforcing his origin as an elite asset and highlighting the extreme significance of his betrayal to the ISA hierarchy when the framing occurred.
2.2. The Early Trajectory: Loyalty Forged Through Enmity
Qiuyuan’s profile reveals a dramatic personal journey marked by significant internal conflict and eventual submission to institutional duty. His background notes that "enmity filled his younger days," but "loyalty defined his later years". This history suggests that the ISA or his unnamed Master successfully utilized or rehabilitated Qiuyuan, transforming him from a figure of potential dissent into a highly disciplined, loyal, and capable operative. This process likely instilled a rigorous, perhaps even cynical, sense of duty that prepared him for the demanding and often morally compromised environment of the ISA.
This history of overcoming youthful defiance to achieve profound institutional commitment makes his subsequent alleged defection all the more politically potent. When the Mingting framed him, they were not just sacrificing a loyal agent; they were corrupting the narrative of the rehabilitated ideal. His fall, in the eyes of the public, proved that even the most committed agents could not withstand internal corruption, thereby justifying the Mingting’s supposed necessity to hunt him down.
3. The Narrative of Defection: Why Qiuyuan is a 'Traitor'
3.1. The Mechanism of the Betrayal Accusation
Qiuyuan is widely pursued and officially designated a 'traitor' for having "betrayed the Mingting's Internal Security Agency". This public declaration serves as a crucial institutional defense mechanism. The ISA must maintain strict control over sensitive information and political stability; therefore, publicly branding a senior agent as a traitor is a necessary political strategy to neutralize the information he possesses and to prevent internal crises from being exposed.
The true context of his status is revealed by analyzing the dichotomy between the official story and the canonical facts. Qiuyuan is not a traitor in action, but a scapegoat in status. His mission is effectively a clandestine continuation of his duty, necessitated by the corruption of his own agency.
3.2. The Catalytic Event: Scapegoated for Murder
The event that catalyzed Qiuyuan's exile was the assassination of his superior, Grandmaster Liang, by the Fractsidus agent known as the Grand Architect. Qiuyuan was immediately arrested and imprisoned in the capital, prepared for execution, as he was scapegoated for the murder. This event is not an abstract crime; Qiuyuan is actively searching for the "figure I saw in Cardiff's murder." It is logical to conclude that this specific "Cardiff's murder" is the incident used to frame him, or that his investigation into it provided the necessary leverage for the ISA's corrupt elements to pin the crime on him.
The framing was done by internal Mingting elements, allowing the Grand Architect's assassination plot to succeed and spread corruption within the Mingting. This murder is intrinsically linked to larger, catastrophic threats, including whispers regarding the "Harbinger" of the Dark Tide, Fenrico. As a senior agent, Qiuyuan likely uncovered the political truth or the identity of the true perpetrator, possibly uncovering internal ISA complicity or high-level political maneuvering. Instead of allowing him to proceed with an investigation that could expose deep corruption, elements within the Mingting used his high status to frame him. This forces Qiuyuan to continue his true mission—exposing the conspiracy and seeking justice for Cardiff—while operating as a fugitive. This freedom from official oversight is precisely what allows him to pursue the deep-seated political rot that the ISA itself wishes to conceal.
3.3. The Blind Swordsman’s Exile: Functionality in Isolation
Qiuyuan’s profile describes him as now a "blind swordsman wandering the world alone". His loss of sight is a potent symbol: it dictates that he can no longer rely on superficial institutional observation (the 'eyes' of the Mingting) but must instead rely on heightened internal awareness and his own moral judgment.
His solitary status and official designation as a traitor afford him a unique, crucial tactical advantage: operational immunity. He can now investigate the sensitive, internal corruption relating to the murder conspiracy without being officially tracked or implicated by the compromised ISA structure. He is a shadow agent seeking institutional integrity from outside the institution itself.
4. Quiyuan’s Interpersonal Canonical Relationships:
Qiuyuan’s master was an unnamed old man he first encountered five years ago, amid what he remembers as a hell of fire and blood. The first words he ever heard from him were spoken in that chaos—chaos Qiuyuan believes the old man himself had caused. Yet, despite the devastation, the man pulled him from the ruins and took him away. From that moment on, the old man became his master. Qiuyuan never learned his name or ever saw his face beneath the rags he wore; he knew only the man’s voice, his merciless guidance, and the unyielding discipline he enforced. In the remote mountains, the master taught him how to survive, how to fight, and—most importantly—how to perceive the world without sight, feeling intent, breath, and killing will as clearly as light. For five long years, Qiuyuan trained under this brutal regimen. He never once defeated his master—not until the day he dared to speak the whispered title associated with him: Sword Specter. On that day, the old man finally fought him without restraint. The battle marked Qiuyuan’s first victory over his master—and it was also the day he left the mountain. Sometime afterward, the old man passed away, leaving Qiuyuan with nothing but the teachings carved into him through pain, discipline, and clarity. To this day, Qiuyuan honors those teachings in every motion of his blade, carrying the calm and resolve shaped by the man who forged him.
Qiuyuan’s relationships with other characters are defined by strategic interaction, mutual testing, and the establishment of covert trust, often bypassing formal political allegiances.
Ciaccona - a bard lady performing a tale about Qiuyuan, she met him once but never had a close conversation with him.
Zani, Carlotta, and Phoebe - just like Ciaccona, they encountered him rarely but never got a chance to have a friendly conversation but they do acknowledge his outstanding strength on holding back large number of tacet discords that further prevented the chaos in their evacuation areas, They only knew later on from the people and gladiators that saw him.
Augusta - as the ruler or ephor of septimont, she extends her gratitude for Qiuyuan silent act of aid on slaughtering huge numbers of tacet discords during the darktide. Her and Luno respects Qiuyuan wuxia way of handling chaos.
Sanhua - Sanhua had always known of of her Uncle, Agent Qiuyuan they're both from the same lineage. though their paths rarely crossed. Within the halls of Mingting’s Internal Security Agency, whispers followed his name — a man whose loyalty was unquestionable until politics made him a traitor. She would often see him standing before the Magistrate Jinshi, silent as the magistrate’s shadow, summoned only when the situation demanded actions too delicate for public record. Unlike Sanhua, who served in Jinshi’s visible ranks, Qiuyuan operated beneath the surface — the unseen blade that cut for Huanglong’s stability. Their encounters were brief. Orders exchanged, eyes meeting in understanding that required no words. The first time Sanhua witnessed him receive a directive personally, it was the infamous “Scar Retrieval” order — bring Scar back, dead or alive.
Even then, Qiuyuan’s voice carried no hesitation, yet behind his calm acceptance was a quiet resolve:
> He never intended to bring Scar back alive.
Chixia, Yangyang, and Bhaizhi - these girls had already crossed paths with him once, but never truly known who he is behind the quiet facade. They have heard he's after by the mingting authorities or ISA but they know just by looking at him he pose no threat because if he were General Jiyan would've been ordered to capture him.
Doctor Zhang - Qiuyuan was severely wounded and found himself near death, at which point Doctor Zhang intervened and saved his life. During his recovery under Zhang’s care, Qiuyuan’s Forte (resonance power) was permanently damaged, and the doctor provided a potent medicinal regimen—embodied by the Bamboo Flask—that could temporarily restore his strength. Through this experience, Qiuyuan underwent a transformation: from a swordsman driven by enmity and duty to one guided by calm and restraint. Zhang does not train Qiuyuan in martial arts, but instead acts as healer and mentor in the broader sense—helping him heal physically and mentally, and giving him space to reassess his path. Qiuyuan regards Doctor Zhang with deep gratitude and recognizes that his life changed because of the doctor’s intervention.
Changli - Qiuyuan Knows Changli because they were structural peers in the capital's political machine, the Mingting, responsible for the highest level of Huanglong's state security and administration.
* Changli's Position: She was the influential Secretary-General of the Central Secretariat. This role placed her at the very center of political and administrative coordination, making her privy to top-level decisions and internal intelligence regarding the state of Huanglong.
* Qiuyuan's Position: He was a Senior Agent of the Internal Security Agency (ISA). His missions involved sensitive intelligence, covert operations, and political security—the direct enforcement arm for the kinds of policies and crises managed by the Secretariat.
The Professional Intersection
Their duties necessitated mutual knowledge, if not direct communication:
* High-Level Security Matters: Any internal political crisis, such as the initial investigation into Grandmaster Liang's murder (before Qiuyuan was framed), would have required the ISA (Qiuyuan's department) to coordinate with the Central Secretariat (Changli's department).
* Shared Political Context: Both were highly effective, influential agents who witnessed the deep corruption that eventually caused the crisis: Qiuyuan's framing and exile, and Changli's subsequent resignation from her prestigious capital position to focus on regional stability under Magistrate Jinshi.
In essence, Qiuyuan's knowledge of Changli is rooted in professional respect and political awareness—she was a known, powerful, and competent figure in the inner court he served before he became a fugitive. But to Qiuyuan ever since she stepped down on her position as the secretary general no one could fill up her place.
The professional relationship between Qiuyuan and General Jiyan is defined by the compartmentalization of authority within the Huanglong government, making them structural peers who operate in parallel domains rather than being close confidantes or rivals.
Here is a breakdown of their relationship based on the official structure of the state:
Jiyan - Qiuyuan and Jiyan both serve as high-ranking agents of state security reporting to Magistrate Jinshi, but they hold authority over entirely different spheres of influence. Jiyan is the General of the Midnight Rangers , embodying the traditional QingLong (Azure Dragon) mettle. His mandate is focused on external military defense, large-scale tactical command, and managing threats like Tacet Disasters and the Retroact Rain that originate outside Jinzhou's immediate political structure. His role is public and focused on conventional warfare.
Agent Qiuyuan: Qiuyuan is the former senior agent of Mingting's Internal Security Agency (ISA), often speculated to represent the BaiHu (White Tiger) mettle. His operational focus is on internal security, covert intelligence, prosecuting sensitive political crimes (like the Cardiff murder for which he was framed), and carrying out the Magistrate's classified mandates.
The fact that Qiuyuan was dispatched to Rinascita with the explicit mission to retrieve Scar and gather intelligence on the Threnodian Resonator was a covert mandate directly from the Capital.
The existence of a political agent (Qiuyuan) operating independently of the military chain of command (Jiyan) ensures that the Magistrate retains a loyal enforcement mechanism for politically sensitive missions, thereby preventing a single military figure from holding absolute control over both conventional defense and internal political security.
3. Basis of Interaction: Strategic Tolerance Qiuyuan’s status as a necessary asset for national security means Jiyan must strategically tolerate him despite his official label as a "traitor". Jiyan is focused on the immediate threat to Huanglong, stating: "if you lose your way follow the banner of Ching Long. get behind me whenever there's danger. Jiyan's focus is on stability and minimizing losses. Qiuyuan value lies in his unique intelligence regarding core threats like Fenrico and the internal conspiracy, making him a necessary, albeit politically problematic, asset for the greater good of Huanglong
4.1. The Rover and the Mutual Objective
Qiuyuan views the Rover with profound assessment, recognizing their capacity for deep moral commitment, exemplified by their willingness to "honor a dying stranger's final wish". He also perceives the complex secrecy surrounding the Rover ("everything you said was just to hide the truth deliberately"). This demonstrates Qiuyuan's recognition that the Rover, much like himself, operates in moral and strategic shades of gray for a greater good.
Their relationship is built upon Pragmatic Mutual Respect and Information Exchange. Qiuyuan acknowledges the Rover’s uncorrupted nature, contrasting sharply with the self-serving political machinations of the ISA. The Rover is seen as a worthy ally, capable of handling the high stakes related to Scar, the Dark Tide, and the Mingting's internal security crisis.
4.2. Magistrate Jinshi and the Jinzhou Connection
Perhaps the most significant evidence of Qiuyuan's true loyalties and operational reach is his connection to Magistrate Jinshi. Qiuyuan confirms a direct, clandestine line of communication when he relays a message to the Rover: "The magistrate of Jinzhou asked me to send her regards. The people you helped they're still waiting for your return farewell".
Jinshi, being a high-ranking political authority in Jinzhou, would ordinarily be obliged to work with the ISA to capture a wanted traitor. Her willingness to communicate sensitive messages through Qiuyuan confirms two crucial points: first, she is fully aware of Qiuyuan’s scapegoating; and second, she trusts Quiyuan over the official ISA structure. This establishes that Qiuyuan is currently acting as a critical intelligence operative for a loyalist shadow faction or internal resistance movement within the Mingting.
4.3. Jiyan and Other Playable Resonators
Qiuyuan's interactions with other high-ranking figures, such as Jiyan, the General of the Midnight Rangers, are noted in voice lines. Jiyan’s primary directive is to protect Huanglong from external threats like the Lament. Jiyan’s relationship with Qiuyuan is defined by Strategic Tolerance. The General’s military priority supersedes the ISA’s political vendetta against a fugitive. Jiyan recognizes Qiuyuan’s exceptional skill and access to unique intelligence regarding national security threats (such as Scar and the Harbinger) , allowing for temporary, unofficial collaboration despite the official 'traitor' designation.
5. The Operational Mandate: Capturing Scar and Hunting the True Murderer
5.1. Scar’s Significance to Mingting Security
Qiuyuan’s immediate operational focus is the pursuit of Scar. This pursuit is not arbitrary; Scar is centrally involved in the larger conspiracy tied to the Dark Tide Harbinger, Fenrico, who was charged with "sealing the dark tide at the orders for Brritorium" but seemingly failed in his duties. Scar is a target because he either is, or is directly associated with, a failure of high-level containment efforts which could expose the vulnerabilities and secrets of the Mingting structure. Before he part ways with Fenrico he confessed to Fenrico his deep guilt of sparring Geshu lin that led to Geshu lin taking an unwanted path which is he sacrificed his body to the black flames for power” before charging the Threnodian Ovathrax. And assumed dead or corrupted by the Ovathrax threnodian 3 years ago.
Qiuyuan's pursuit is primarily a mission of intelligence extraction. He seeks to understand Scar’s role in the wider conspiracy that directly relates back to the high-profile murder for which Qiuyuan was framed. Capturing Scar is a means to achieve his ultimate goal: revealing the truth about the internal ISA corruption.
5.2. Strategy and Conflict: The Professional Pursuit
Qiuyuan's combat profile—a 5-star Aero Sword user providing tactical buffs and built for high mobility —perfectly aligns with a mission to track and apprehend a high-value, elusive target. His ISA background dictates a professional, clinical approach to security, focused intensely on neutralizing threats to national stability, even while operating as an agent outside the formal structures of the law.
6.1. Moral Rationale: Why Quiyuan Spared Geshu Lin
Qiuyuan’s decision to spare Geshu Lin during their encounter is rooted in a profound moral recognition, distinct from any political or institutional mandate. Qiuyuan, having been unjustly sacrificed by the Mingting, understands the difference between political sacrifice and genuine self-determination.
Qiuyuan notes that when one is "truly prepared to die, death doesn't come so easily. i never act with sacrifice as a given". Geshu Lin, who disappeared after fighting a Threnodian, had already committed a costly sacrifice for his duty—an act resulting in a form of living exile or perpetual danger. Qiuyuan respects this self-determined fate and moral commitment above the demands of the institutions. He judges Lin by a higher, personal code, seeing a mirror image of his own isolated commitment, leading him to choose tolerance over capture.
Qiuyuan’s canonical background establishes him not as a malicious dissident, but as a loyalist victimized by internal Mingting politics—a testament to the moral rot within the institutional ISA structure. He is a senior agent who was framed for murder and branded a 'traitor' to protect a deeper conspiracy related to a key event, potentially "Cardiff's murder," and the threats posed by figures like the Harbinger Fenrico.
His current status as a blind, wandering swordsman grants him the necessary operational freedom to pursue this truth independently. His network of relationships, particularly with the Rover (based on moral respect) and Magistrate Jinshi (based on political trust), confirms that he acts as an intelligence asset for a loyalist shadow faction within Huanglong that recognizes the ISA’s corruption.
The introduction of the quest "A Stranger in a Strange Land" (referenced for October 30, 2025) perfectly encapsulates Qiuyuan's existence: he is the internal security agent (the Stranger) forced to operate across a post-Lament world (the Strange Land) due to his official status as a fugitive. This narrative trajectory is anticipated to propel Qiuyuan into environments where Mingting authority is nonexistent, forcing him to secure definitive proof regarding the true murderer and the conspiracy that framed him. Ultimately, Qiuyuan’s narrative significance lies in his demonstration that the hope for Huanglong's integrity relies not on its public, powerful agencies, but on covert networks of morally committed individuals who reject institutional deceit.
