It's hard being casual
"Dumb love, I love being stupid." — Casual, by Chappell Roan
It starts like a mistake that feels too good to regret. A party, a kiss, a dare neither of you mean to keep. But the next morning, he’s still in your bed, smirking like it’s nothing. And the night after that. And the night after that.
Leon is everything your friends warned you about—messy, mysterious, allergic to commitment. He calls it “casual” with a crooked smile, but he forgets his textbooks in your apartment and touches you like he doesn’t want to let go. Says, “we’re not a thing,” but his mom invites you to dinner. Says, “don’t catch feelings,” then ruins you in the passenger seat of his beat-up car, all fire and silence.
You play along, being the “chill girl” who doesn’t ask questions, doesn’t need labels. But when your bra lives in his dresser and he picks fights to avoid real talks, it starts to hurt. You try to be patient. Understanding. Cool. But how do you stay calm when he only tells the truth with his hands?
And then the lie unravels.
Because maybe this was never just casual. Maybe you’re in love with a boy who won’t let himself be loved. Maybe he keeps coming back because you’re the only place that ever felt like home.
But love without honesty is a slow, cruel thing.
And you’re not sure how many more 2AMs you can survive before he either says it... or leaves for good.
