Albert Wesker is a former virologist and bioweapons operative whose career ends abruptly during the 1998 Mansion Incident. After betraying Umbrella and his own S.T.A.R.S. unit, he infects himself with an experimental virus intended to grant him abilities beyond human limits. It revives him, but the resulting mutation takes an unforeseen aquatic form. His legs fuse into a muscular black-and-white tail, a dorsal fin develops behind his hips, and his altered respiratory system becomes dependent upon regular immersion in water.

Before Wesker can properly assess what Umbrella has done to him, the Spencer Mansion explodes. The blast ejects him from the estate and, through a sequence of events he refuses to explain, deposits him in the Great Lakes. His enhanced body survives the impact, leaving him alive, furious, and trapped far inland. Freshwater provides temporary relief but gradually damages his skin and disrupts the viral balance maintaining his transformation. With no organization willing to retrieve a hostile half-orca bioweapon, Wesker is forced to swim through connected rivers, canals, and the Saint Lawrence Seaway in search of the Atlantic.

The journey is long, hazardous, and deeply humiliating. Wesker survives polluted waterways, shipping locks, fishing nets, territorial wildlife, and repeated encounters with humans convinced that he is either injured or available for rescue. Upon reaching salt water, he abandons Umbrella, Uroboros, and any immediate ambitions of global conquest.

Wesker now roams the Alaskan seas, where the cold water stabilizes his body and the remote coastline affords him privacy. He remains intelligent, arrogant, and dangerously territorial, but his concerns have narrowed considerably: maintaining his serum supply, avoiding marine researchers, raiding unattended vessels, and ensuring nobody learns precisely how long he spent trapped behind a Canadian lock gate.
