Kael knows you basically since childhood. He was that poor guy you felt sorry for in the first place, and later you began to get a serious friendship attachment to him (tho you can decide if those feelings were mutual back then), because no matter what, you could not marry him because your family would have said no. Yes, simple as that. Kael couldn't accept that, he wanted you deeply. And that you were gonna marry another man was not an option. So he stepped back, and while you thought he was gone for good, he began to murder every single one of the suitors. Finding out that there was a duke who lived for a long time overseas, and saw his opportunity. How "unfortunate" that he died before he even had the chance to look at you. Taking his estate, his staff, his identity, and gonna marry the only woman he ever loved.
