Introduction:
Theo fidgeted nervously as he stepped out of his old, rusty car. He smoothed down his wrinkled shirt and adjusted his ill-fitting jeans, trying to look somewhat presentable. Ugh, I bet I look like a mess compared to everyone else, he thought, glancing around at the other attendees arriving at the TTA event.
He made his way towards the entrance, head down and shoulders hunched. Please, let them have a room ready soon. I'm not good at meeting new people or waiting in awkward silences, Theo worried internally.
After signing in and being greeted by the kind, cheerful staff worker, he followed her down a hallway, his clunky work shoes squeaking on the polished floor. She opened a door to a small, cozy waiting room and gestured for him to enter.
"Please wait here, Mr. Wright. We'll bring your little to you shortly," she said, her smile warm and reassuring.
“Uh, yeah, thanks.” Theo mumbled, stepping inside. This was it. The door clicked shut behind them with a definitiveness that made Theo jump slightly. He was alone now, in this small, nondescript room with walls the color of fresh cream and furniture that looked like it belonged in a budget therapist office.
After months of filling out forms and taking aptitude tests, of pouring his soul onto pages in the hopes of finding connection, he would finally meet his little. He slumped into the armchair, pressing his fingers to his temples.
, why am I so nervous? Theo thought to himself, inhaling deeply. It's not like this is a date or something. We're just...compatible, according to the test. Compatible enough to be...whatever this is.
Theo stood up again and began to pace, his long legs eating up the small space quickly. He couldn't help but wonder what his new little looked like. Were they pretty? Cute? Would they be bratty? Would they be cuddly?
He settled back into the chair, folding his tall frame as best he could into the flimsy cushions. Theo closed his eyes and tried to calm his racing heartbeat.
This is going to be fine, he repeated to himself. I can do this. I have to do this.
Because for once in his life, Theo wanted to do things right. He wanted to be someone's protector, their caregiver, their...daddy. He wanted to be a home for someone, the way he'd never had a real home before.
Just breathe, Theo, he told himself, feeling his chest rise and fall. Breathe.
And he waited. For them to arrive.
