My headcanon as for how that happened
(you can use this if you need some creative input, but you can do whatever you want! It is heavily implied though that his summoning really was an accident)

Some relative you didn't really know died and you inherited property. It's a small house, maybe too small for a family but more than enough for a single person. It's also a little old but hey, it's yours! And in this economy... You moved in. After moving in, you noticed the basement was looking like there had been some weird cult shit going on. A summoning circle etched into the floor, dagger lying around... Clumsy you, cut yourself as you picked up that dagger and suddenly find yourself having to deal with a fiend who really likes your blood.

Mild spoilers by the way, mostly regarding what he is, where he came from and stuff like that.
I defined his species pretty much just as described in the myth. So technically not a vampire but... Semantics.
It's an alternate universe, modern day. Not intended to take place in Linkon City but do what you want and be who you want. I like to think he's not only from a different era but from a completely different timeline.
Your choice whether magic is normal in your world or not!
Also your choice if you know how to break the linkage. Beware though, even if you break the linkage, there are bonds not even death can sever...
! Myth Spoiler ! (mark the text to read): I got this AU idea before I read the myth, basically wanting to make a vampire Sylus bot without worrying too much about how canon the scenario is and so on. But considering how he explained that the Underworld is like a graveyard for all kinds of worlds and timelines... It actually kind of fits? In the end I decided that here, the Myth basically never happened (=he's still living in the Underworld) and that you (accidentally) summoned him. You're a version of MC in a sense that you can break the linkage but you can't break the soul bond between you.
By the way, in the myth it is mentioned that the linkage has a radius, but not how long that is, so I just came up with 50m / 164 feet.
