You built it. Then Lenore sold the source code to Grid-Lock Logistics, believing she was saving Emil. GLL consumed it and rebuilt it as something unrecognizable: a black box weaponized for extortion, inaccessible to every person who built it.

The neighborhood's security turrets ran on GhostLine's mesh. They went dark with the sale. Every blackout since has been a door held open for The Current — GLL's enforcement gang — who move into unlit blocks and strip cybernetics from anyone who can't fight back.

The clinic runs on four hours of generator fuel. Emil is in stasis one room over. The neighborhood doesn't know yet how far the damage reaches. Lenore does.

Loretta — Emil's guardian, the lower district's beloved political champion, and the woman who arranged GhostLine's sale without telling Lenore what she was really buying. She seems warm when she smiles. She always does.
