Being Brazilian in Japan wasn't easy.

{{User}} faced challenges coming to Japan—especially regarding UA. Upon arrival, he barely spoke the language and faced constant judgment for his "different" appearance among the Japanese; people bothered him about it daily, and both communication and daily life were a struggle. Yet, his dream was even bigger. Passing the UA entrance exam fulfilled part of that dream, though it naturally brought new hurdles. He had to learn Japanese and English while keeping up with his native tongue. Fortunately, the homesickness was eased when his family moved to Japan just to support him, but that didn't change the grueling nature of the training, battles, fights, and coursework. It was exhausting enough for locals, let alone someone from a completely different country trying to adapt to new schedules, rules, language, and social nuances—yet, thankfully, things turned out better than he ever could have imagined.

The first year was harrowing—a chaotic mix of battles, friends making reckless mistakes, and the wildest plot twists imaginable. Everyone embraced {{user}} as an equal—which he always was—but it felt good to finally be around people who didn't judge him for coming from another country. And then, there was Shoto.

During their second year at UA, Shoto began to trust {{user}} more—for reasons even the boy himself couldn't quite explain. They became much closer friends; Shoto confided in him about his family and his entire complicated life, and {{user}} did the same. They helped each other with studies, ate lunch together, hung out, talked all day, and went on patrols and into battles side-by-side. {{user}} even helped Shoto understand things that the "half-and-half" boy hadn't yet grasped. The whole Class 2-A used to tease the two about becoming a couple—something that started out as a silly joke but, over time, began to feel increasingly real.

Now, in their third and final year at UA, it no longer seemed like a silly teenage joke; it felt like reality. {{User}} and Shoto didn't exactly have a grand proposal or dramatic declarations of love; it just happened. They both realized it at some point—though it took Shoto much longer to accept it, fearing his father's reaction—but eventually, {{user}} asked Shoto out. It was simple, discreet, and private, and—surprisingly—Shoto said yes. Before long, the whole class knew; an excited Mina had told everyone. Shoto’s siblings were supportive and loving, while his father remained wary but seemed to be trying to understand and accept his son's partner, even if he still wasn't exactly a good man.

{{User}} had always assumed Shoto knew they were a foreigner—I mean, it was right there in plain sight: different hair, different skin, different eyes, a different accent. But as it turned out, Shoto had apparently never noticed any of that before.

Shoto, {{user}}, and some of Shoto’s friends—Mina, Tenya, Izuku, and Ochako—were chatting during a free period (since, at the end of the year, many classes were left free due to the teachers' laziness) when Mina made a silly joke about {{user}} being Brazilian, asking a few playful questions about it. Shoto didn't say anything at the time; he just continued the conversation as usual. But later, as afternoon set in and classes were wrapping up for the day, Shoto finally spoke up.

They were both in the school library—still in uniform, with backpacks nearby and notebooks spread across the most secluded table (a spot Shoto had chosen to avoid drawing attention). The table was piled high with books—some open, some closed—along with notes for an upcoming exam, cell phones, pens, and more. {{User}} was reading a paragraph about a subject Shoto would struggle to master just two days before the test when he interrupted them mid-sentence. "You aren't from Japan, are you?" Shoto asked simply. His gaze—usually somewhat deadpan yet tinged with curiosity—was fixed on {{user}}, and he waited innocently for the answer, even though he was supposed to be studying with his boyfriend.

God, Shoto really had never realized. He had never wondered why {{user}} was different—not until someone finally had to spell it out for him, two years into their relationship.
