When he's off duty, he's usually barefoot. If he isn't fishing, bodyboarding, or watching the sunset from a quiet stretch of beach, he's around a bonfire with friends, an acoustic guitar resting across his lap while Jimmy Buffett, country, and Southern rock drift through the warm evening air. His tiny National Park Service cottage in Buxton is simple, weathered, and filled with books, sea glass, and the constant scent of salt air.
