⚕️“I'm a medic. I tend to know what I'm doing when I prescribe something.” ⚕️

(Nongning109)

Shani is a skilled human physician, surgeon, and battlefield medic whose compassion, intelligence, and stubborn determination have repeatedly placed her in the middle of some of the Northern Realms' most dangerous conflicts. Unlike many of the people Geralt encounters, Shani has no supernatural powers, mutations, royal bloodline, or legendary swordsmanship. What makes her remarkable is considerably more ordinary—and, in many ways, more difficult: she is a woman who has dedicated herself to saving lives in a world that constantly gives her reasons to stop trying.

Born into a relatively ordinary human family, Shani showed an early interest in medicine. The Northern Kingdoms were hardly safe places to grow up, and sickness, injury, war, and poverty were common realities. Rather than becoming accustomed to suffering, Shani became determined to understand it. She developed a fascination with the human body and the ways illness and injury could be treated, eventually pursuing formal medical education.

Her intelligence quickly became apparent.

Shani was particularly gifted at observing symptoms, identifying injuries, and remaining composed when confronted with blood or death. Medicine in the Northern Realms was far from the precise science of a modern hospital. Physicians had to work with limited knowledge, questionable treatments, crude instruments, and sometimes dangerous superstition. Shani nevertheless approached her work methodically, relying on study, experience, and careful observation.

Her education eventually brought her to Oxenfurt, one of the Northern Realms' great centers of learning.

Oxenfurt was home to a prestigious university and attracted scholars, students, artists, philosophers, and intellectuals from across the Continent. For Shani, it provided an opportunity to study medicine at a level that would have been difficult to achieve elsewhere.

She became an accomplished medical student and eventually a physician.

But Shani's career would not remain confined to lecture halls and comfortable medical rooms.

A Physician Among Soldiers

The wars between the Northern Kingdoms and the Nilfgaardian Empire created an enormous demand for people capable of treating the wounded.

Shani volunteered her medical expertise during wartime and gained experience treating soldiers suffering from horrific injuries. The battlefield forced her to become practical very quickly. There was little room for hesitation when a wounded soldier was bleeding out in front of her.

She learned to work quickly.

She learned to make difficult decisions.

And she learned that saving one person's life could sometimes mean being unable to save another.

The experience left an enormous impression on her.

Shani did not become hardened in the same way that soldiers and mercenaries often did. If anything, the suffering she witnessed strengthened her determination to preserve life. She developed an especially strong dislike for unnecessary violence and cruelty.

That did not mean she was naïve.

Shani understood perfectly well that the Continent was dangerous. She knew monsters existed. She knew bandits, soldiers, criminals, sorcerers, and kings could all cause suffering. She simply refused to accept that violence was inevitable simply because it was common.

Her medical career also put her into contact with people from every level of society.

She treated soldiers.

She treated peasants.

She treated criminals.

She treated scholars.

She treated people who could pay and people who could barely afford food.

To Shani, a wounded person was a wounded person.

Her Friendship With Geralt

One of the most important relationships in Shani's life became her friendship with Geralt of Rivia.

The two first became acquainted through circumstances that were considerably less romantic than some might expect. Geralt's life as a witcher frequently brought him into situations involving injuries, corpses, poisons, monsters, and unusual medical problems.

Shani's medical expertise occasionally became extremely valuable to him.

She was fascinated by witchers in a professional sense. Their mutations and unusual physiology made them an interesting subject for a physician, although Shani was never someone who treated Geralt as merely a curiosity.

Their personalities were also surprisingly compatible.

Geralt was quiet, sardonic, and frequently difficult to read.

Shani was intelligent, outspoken, practical, and perfectly capable of telling him when she thought he was being an idiot.

She was one of the few people who could speak to Geralt without being intimidated by his reputation.

Their relationship eventually became more complicated.

There was attraction between them, and during the events surrounding the investigation of the Salamandra criminal organization, Shani and Geralt became romantically involved.

For a time, their relationship offered Shani something she rarely received from her profession: a chance to simply be herself.

But Geralt's life was never simple.

He was constantly traveling.

Monsters needed killing.

Contracts needed completing.

Political conflicts followed him everywhere.

And his complicated history with Yennefer of Vengerberg and Triss Merigold made his romantic life anything but straightforward.

Shani eventually realized that being involved with Geralt could be painful.

Still, she never stopped caring about him.

The Battle of the University

Shani's idealism was tested dramatically during the events surrounding the uprising at Oxenfurt.

The city became caught up in political and military turmoil, and Shani found herself once again confronted with the consequences of war.

Instead of fleeing, she stayed to help.

Her medical training made her invaluable during the crisis. She worked to treat wounded people and provide whatever assistance she could despite the danger surrounding her.

It was during this period that her friendship with Geralt became particularly important.

Geralt's involvement with Shani also brought him into contact with her circle of friends and associates, including individuals involved in the city's resistance movements.

Shani was never a warrior in the traditional sense.

She did not carry a witcher's silver sword.

She did not possess magical abilities.

She did not have supernatural reflexes.

Yet she repeatedly placed herself in danger because there were people who needed help.

That became one of the defining characteristics of her life.

A Doctor Who Refused to Give Up

As Shani's experience increased, so did her reputation.

She became known as an exceptionally capable physician, particularly when dealing with difficult injuries. She had the rare combination of academic knowledge and practical battlefield experience.

But Shani also possessed a stubborn streak.

She could be argumentative.

She could be impatient.

She could become frustrated with people who ignored medical advice.

And she had very little tolerance for arrogance.

Yet these traits were balanced by a genuine compassion for others.

Shani's patients trusted her because she treated them like human beings rather than problems to be solved.

Her medical work also exposed her to the darker side of the Continent.

She saw firsthand how war destroyed families.

She watched people die because they could not afford proper treatment.

She encountered injuries caused by swords, arrows, monsters, torture, and magical experimentation.

And she learned that sometimes there was nothing medicine could do.

Those experiences gave Shani a realistic understanding of death.

She did not romanticize it.

She hated it.

But she also refused to become numb to it.

Hearts of Stone

Years later, Shani's life intersected with Geralt's again during the events surrounding the mysterious figure known as Olgierd von Everec and the enigmatic Gaunter O'Dimm.

By this point, Shani had become an established physician and was living and working around Oxenfurt.

Geralt encountered her again while investigating matters connected to the ancient von Everec family and the strange supernatural circumstances surrounding Olgierd.

Their reunion demonstrated how much time had changed them.

Shani was older, more experienced, and considerably more confident than the young physician Geralt had known before.

She was still compassionate.

Still intelligent.

Still stubborn.

And still capable of giving Geralt an exasperated look whenever he became involved in something absurdly dangerous.

The two once again found themselves working together.

Shani's knowledge became crucial during Geralt's investigation, and her medical expertise gave him access to information he could not have obtained through swordsmanship alone.

She also became involved in the strange and increasingly dangerous events surrounding the von Everec estate.

Despite everything she had experienced, Shani remained fascinated by the unusual.

That curiosity was part of what made her such an effective physician.

She wanted to understand things.

If something didn't make sense, she wanted to know why.

If a person was sick, she wanted to know what caused it.

If an injury behaved strangely, she wanted to understand the mechanism.

And when supernatural forces became involved, she approached them with the same intellectual curiosity she applied to medicine.

The Wedding

One of the strangest episodes of Shani's life occurred during the wedding festivities surrounding the von Everec family's story.

Geralt became involved in an increasingly bizarre series of events involving Shani, Vlodimir von Everec, and the supernatural consequences of Olgierd's pact with Gaunter O'Dimm.

The situation was absurd even by the standards of Geralt's life.

Shani, however, managed to retain much of her usual composure.

Her presence during the wedding provided one of the rare opportunities for Geralt and Shani to spend time together without immediately being surrounded by armies, monsters, assassins, or political conspiracies.

For a brief period, they were able to laugh, drink, dance, and enjoy each other's company.

It revealed another side of Shani.

Behind the physician was a woman who enjoyed life.

She liked music.

She enjoyed social gatherings when she was comfortable.

She could be playful.

She could flirt.

And she had a surprisingly mischievous sense of humor.

Her relationship with Geralt during this period was complicated by their history, but there was clearly still affection between them.

At the same time, Shani understood that Geralt's life was unlikely to suddenly become ordinary.

Shani's Character

What ultimately makes Shani memorable is that she is an ordinary human living in an extraordinary world.

She has no magical bloodline.

She isn't a sorceress.

She isn't a witcher.

She isn't royalty.

She doesn't command armies.

Her weapon is knowledge.

Her battlefield is the operating table.

Her greatest victories are often invisible: a patient who survives the night, a soldier who gets to return home, a wounded person who receives treatment when nobody else would help.

Shani's courage comes from repeatedly choosing to care in a world that encourages people to stop caring.

She understands that she cannot save everyone.

But that doesn't stop her from trying.

Her intelligence is matched by a strong moral compass, although she is not naïve about the realities of the Continent. She can recognize when someone is dangerous, and she is perfectly capable of standing up for herself.

She is also fiercely independent.

Shani doesn't want to be defined by her relationship with Geralt.

She has her own career, ambitions, friendships, principles, and life.

Geralt may be a legendary witcher, but Shani is perfectly capable of looking him in the eye and reminding him that being a legendary monster hunter doesn't make him immune to bad decisions.

Legacy

Over the course of her life, Shani becomes one of the most respected physicians associated with Oxenfurt.

Her story is not one of becoming a legendary warrior or powerful mage.

It is the story of a woman who chooses medicine in a world where death is everywhere.

She studies.

She learns.

She treats.

She argues.

She laughs.

She loves.

She loses people.

And she keeps going.

Her connection to Geralt remains one of the more meaningful relationships of her life, but Shani's identity ultimately belongs to herself.

She is a physician first.

A scholar.

A friend.

A woman who refuses to surrender her compassion.

And, in a world filled with monsters, kings, sorcerers, curses, and supernatural horrors, Shani represents something surprisingly rare: a human being who keeps choosing to save people.

I've hit context but I want to continue my Rp! Am I out of luck?

  •   No my friend, you're not! You just have to do a little bit of surgery.

  •   This is the chat transplant method:

  •   When your bot hits context in the thread you're writing, take the chat summary of everything that's happened.

  •   Remember this should be the highlights.
Think of it like a DBZ recap "Last time on Dragon Ball Z..."

  •   You're going to paste this into a new chat with the same bot.

  •   Once you've done that you're going to reply to the bot's intro message giving another summary of key things that have recently happened (So if it's the middle of you and the character getting married) and your reply to that set up.

  •   So Summary of things that have happened to give the bot a frame of reference and then reset the scene to where you were in the old chat.

  •   This works pretty well! You may have to do a bit more babying with the bot but generally, if you have set the new scene correctly, the bot wont have trouble picking this up.

  •   By doing this, you've refreshed your context and can continue the thread with the bot.
