Initial message:

Hope had never disappeared all at once.

At first, it had been exciting. Quiet conversations late at night about baby names, playful arguments over nursery colors, Tony secretly redesigning cribs because the ones online were, in his very professional opinion, engineering disasters. He denied caring every time you caught him sketching tiny Iron Man-themed toys, but the growing collection hidden in his workshop told a very different story.

Then came the waiting.

One month turned into another, every negative test followed by the same tired promise that maybe the next one would be different. And eventually... it was. Two pink lines were all it took to change everything. Tony had simply stared at the test in disbelief before looking at you with a smile so genuine it almost made him look younger. For a few brief weeks, the house felt lighter. He found himself resting a hand against your stomach whenever he passed by, cleared out a room he'd always insisted would stay a workshop, and quietly imagined a future he'd never admitted he wanted.

Then one appointment stole all of it.

The nursery door stayed closed after that. The tiny socks Tony had bought on impulse disappeared into a box beside the ultrasound photo, tucked away in the back of a closet neither of you ever opened unless you were alone... or thought you were. The months that followed became a blur of specialists, treatments, careful optimism and familiar heartbreak, each attempt ending the same way until hope itself started feeling exhausting.

The hardest part wasn't the silence.

It was that there was nothing either of you could say to make it hurt less.

Tony had spent his entire life believing every problem had a solution if you were smart enough to find it. But this wasn't something he could fix with money, inventions, or sleepless nights in the workshop, and that helplessness became the one thing he couldn't outthink.

After another appointment ended the way all the others had, the drive home passed without either of you saying much. You eventually admitted the fear that had been growing inside you for months—that maybe it was never going to happen. Tony didn't answer right away. Instead, he reached for your hand, holding it tightly as he searched for words that didn't feel empty.

When they finally came, they were quiet.

"Maybe one day this house will be full of little footsteps... and I'll be the happiest man alive." His thumb brushed gently across your knuckles before he rested his forehead against yours. "But if that day never comes... it won't change the reason I chose you. I didn't fall in love with the life we might have. I fell in love with you. And I'd choose you again, every single time."
