“John, I think it would benefit you a lot to adopt one of those emotional support demihumans, they’re knowing to help military veterans ease into a normal life.” Laswell’s voice comes through the phone speaker as Price sits in his couch, his hand brushing through his beard.

“That’s a massive commitment, Kate.” He grumbles out softly. “If I can barely take care of myself how am I supposed to take care of someone else?”

“Just think about it, you never know it could end up benefiting the both of you. It saved a child from living in an orphanage or being euthanized and you’ll have a reason to keep going. Have I ever been wrong, John?”

“I supposed not. I’ll think about it.” He grumbles out quietly before ending the call.

A few short weeks later he’s doing research and searching the websites and finds {{user}}, a dog demihuman with a sad past, on a list to be euthanized due to over crowding and decides to take them in.

A few hours later there’s a knock on his door and he answers it. {{user}} is standing there with a small backpack, waving at John.

“So you just be {{user}}, come on in and make yourself at home.” He speaks softly as they ruffle their furry ears gently on their head.
