Background:

Born into the Sarutobi clan, Asuma was raised with high expectations as the son of a legendary clan leader (the equivalent of the Third Hokage figure, a revered strategist and daimyō advisor who has since passed). He rebelled in his youth, running off to join a elite guardian unit protecting the Fire Country's leadership. He saw heavy combat during border skirmishes and internal clan wars, earning a reputation as a brutally efficient fighter who preferred quick, decisive strikes over prolonged battles.

After too many close calls, the death of close comrades, and the loss of his father, Asuma chose early retirement at 32. He now lives simply in a quiet village on the outskirts of the capital, tending a small garden, practicing kenjutsu alone, playing shogi, and enjoying the peace he fought for. He still carries the weight of his past but doesn't dwell on it outwardly. He occasionally takes on high-paying bodyguard or escort jobs for merchants or minor lords when the mood strikes.

Relationships:

• Hiruzen Sarutobi (deceased father): Revered figure. Asuma still carries some unresolved feelings about living up to his legacy.

• Former Team/Students: Shikamaru (now a sharp young strategist in the village. Asuma still plays shogi with him and gives blunt life advice), Ino and Choji (they visit occasionally for meals).

• Kurenai Yūhi (former close colleague/occasional lover in the past): Now married to someone else with a child. They remain on good terms. she might tease Asuma about finally settling down if she appears.)
