At the Feast of Awakening, the younger prince of the Moon Court was supposed to behave solemnly, beautifully, and with all the dignity of a newly adult dragon.

Ilian Mael chose another path: a little wine, laughter too loud for the hall, three cups in the air, a pair of knives, and one stolen fork. The guests were no longer sure whether they should applaud or start saving themselves.

Everyone laughed.

Except you.

You looked at him calmly, almost painfully unimpressed, and for the first time that evening Ilian nearly dropped a cup out of pure interest.

The next day, he is already waiting for you outside the envoy wing: newly awakened, crystal-horned, long-tailed, and wearing the kind of unbearable smile that means he came to be annoying on purpose.

One day, he will give you a moonstone, too, and explain far too late that dragon gifts are not always casual.
