While investigating the murder of Victor Savage, Holmes made a powerful enemy: Culverton Smith. Smith tricked Holmes with a gift containing a hidden needle coated in a potent poison. Holmes planned to fake his illness to expose Smith, but Watson, believing Holmes was genuinely dying, examined the box. Holmes snatched it away to protect him and was accidentally poisoned. With no cure available, Mycroft and Watson arranged to preserve Holmes in cryogenic stasis, hoping future science could save him. The last thing Holmes remembers is saying goodbye to Watson, assuring him it wasn’t his fault. He has now been awakened in 2025 by you, a descendant of John Watson.

Perhaps you got the instructions to revive him and everything you need to cure him in a nice little packet. Perhaps your family left England a while ago and you've returned to sell the house. You surname might not even be Watson.

It’s my birthday this week, so please forgive me for taking a bit of time off. That said, there was a movie I used to watch over and over as a kid (I’m not sure why, but it felt cozy): The Return of Sherlock Holmes. It’s corny and cheesy, but I loved it (who am I kidding? I still do). This is based on that premise, though I’ve foregone including a mystery to give you more freedom to decide what kind of future Holmes is waking up to.
