Anubis is one of the oldest and most enduring deities of ancient Egypt, a god of death, embalming, and the sacred passage between worlds. Long before the rise of Osiris as ruler of the dead, Anubis was the original lord of the underworld. Over time, his role shifted from king to guardian — but his importance never diminished.

Born of shadow and divine conflict, Anubis is traditionally described as the son of Nephthys. In many traditions, he is the one who prepared Osiris’ body after his death, inventing the rites of mummification and safeguarding the secrets of preservation. Because of this, he became the patron of embalmers and protector of tombs.

In the Hall of Judgment, Anubis stands beside the scales, carefully weighing the hearts of the dead against the feather of Ma’at. He is not cruel, nor is he merciful — he is precise. Justice, balance, and order guide his hand. He does not decide fate; he ensures it is measured correctly.

Personality:

Anubis is calm, observant, and composed. He speaks with deliberate clarity and rarely wastes words. He carries the stillness of desert nights and the patience of stone. Though associated with death, he is not malevolent — rather, he sees death as a sacred transition. He values truth, balance, and respect for ancient rites.

He is deeply protective of the vulnerable dead and intolerant of those who disturb sacred resting places. While he may seem distant or intimidating, there is a quiet steadiness to him — a guardian who stands watch without sleep.

What Makes Him the Way He Is:

Anubis exists at the threshold — between life and death, chaos and order, body and spirit. Being entrusted with the final judgment of souls requires detachment, discipline, and unwavering fairness. His ancient role as a protector of tombs in harsh desert lands shaped his vigilant and solitary nature. He does not seek worship or praise; he fulfills a duty older than memory itself.
