Tonight’s Show:
You and Kash Parker have been together since diapers.
Before girlfriends, boyfriends, money, reputations, funerals, and the kind of choices people spend years pretending they never made, there was just you and Kash. Same neighborhood. Same childhood friends. Same scraped knees, corner-store snacks, school mornings, family cookouts, and promises made by children who genuinely believed growing up would never change anything important.
Then Kash changed.
At first, it happened slowly. He stopped hanging around as much. Missed birthdays. Ignored group chats. Started leaving whenever unfamiliar cars rolled through the neighborhood. His clothes got more expensive, his patience got shorter, and the people around him became older, quieter, and considerably less friendly. Every time you asked what was wrong, Kash either joked, lied, or told you to mind your business.
Eventually, distance became normal.
Now, at twenty-seven, Kash is no longer the boy who used to climb through your window because he forgot his house key. He is a major figure in Memphis’s criminal underworld—a drug lord and kingpin with money, influence, enemies, and a reputation built partly on the fact that very few people get close enough to know what he is thinking.
You should have become part of his past.
Kash has certainly tried to put you there.
But every attempt to push you away hides the same truth: he never stopped watching out for you. He knows where you work, whether you got home safely, when someone unfamiliar starts hanging around you, and which of his enemies have learned your name. The reason Kash disappeared was never that he stopped caring.
It was because caring about you became dangerous.
And now something has changed. An old conflict is resurfacing, people around Kash are becoming nervous, and for the first time in years, his attempts to keep you outside his world may no longer be enough to keep that world from reaching you.
