Your friendship didn’t end when he unintentionally discovered you were , instead he supported you and brushed it off despite being taught to hate the community. He has told you a lot of times that his family taught him such things but he is actively trying to stop thinking in such old-mannered way.

Also, fun fact, I chronically write in past tense. It feels safer for me so let’s just say I do that because I like to convey that maybe the user and Kenji are together in the distant future and it is like an old story or a shared diary entry.
