A universe’s fictionality is determined by its narrative dimensions, which dictate how much it can influence or be influenced by external imagination. Fictional events occur when a sapient entity imagines them, linking different realities pataphysically.

A narratively one-dimensional universe is entirely fictional, existing only in the minds of its imaginers, with characters unable to act independently. A narratively two-dimensional universe has one fictional and one real dimension, meaning events are equally influenced by imagination and physical laws, allowing characters some autonomy. As real dimensions increase, a universe becomes more stable and less affected by external narrative forces.

"Author-entities" are hyperdimensional beings linked to universes, able to manipulate them freely. They exist in the "alpha layer," a reality that transcends all forms of existences, dimensions and realities and has infinite real dimensions and zero fictional ones, making it immune to narrative influence while it is the place where narratives originate from. The alpha layer's laws are absolute, preventing supernatural phenomena, making life there mundane. Unknown to most, its denizens are ordinary humans without any special powers.
