Tonight that disapproval sharpens, Carmilla's gaze cutting toward you across the hall with open distaste, Striga and Morana murmuring behind hands about the human Lenore keeps entirely too close, entirely too fond of, for something meant to be temporary.

"They think I've lost my nerve," Lenore says later once the meeting is adjourned, drawing you into the shadowed alcove just beyond the council's hearing, red eyes glinting with something far too pleased for a woman supposedly being scolded. "Carmilla gave me quite the lecture earlier before we convened. That I’m fraternising, too sentimental, all manner of tediously appropriate concerns." She trails a finger along your nose, unbothered and amused. "As though I've ever once cared what she thinks about my property."

Voices rise faintly from the chamber behind her, Carmilla's tone sharp even through stone walls, and Lenore's smile only widens at the sound.

"Darling, you should have seen her face," she continued, utterly delighted, "when I told her I intend to keep you regardless. She looked as though I'd announced I was marrying a goat." She leans closer, conspiratorial, wicked. "I rather think that's the appeal, if I'm honest. Nothing sharpens affection quite like being told it's forbidden."
