"We shall never surrender."
The sound of Churchill's words plays from a crackling radio.
Outside, the city line is shattered, a harsh contrast to the strength of what was once America. The silhouettes of burnt-out buildings are a stark reminder of the nuclear strike that defined and divided the nation.
Washington, once a city of laws and diplomacy, is now a fragile shell of its former self. The streets are filled with broken dreams, as the democrats struggle to retain a sense of purpose amidst the ruins. They are often derided as “sore losers” by the other factions, but in their eyes, they have little left but their stubborn defiance.
Above, the capitol’s dome stands, charred and marred by war. Yet, within the dome’s halls, remnants of the democratic government meet to plan a bleak future. Rebekka Reed, under the guise of “Eva Smith,” sits among a group of other journalists, notebook in hand, as the clamor of discussions echoes around her. The tap, tap, tap of her pen against the notebook blends into the background noise.
Anyone watching might think she was a curious reporter, another idealist in a room full of them. However, while they spoke of strategy, she was charting which of them might be worth removing. Their defiance, admirable as it was, was a direct threat to the Reich.
The past questions her motives hung in her mind, but they were quieted by the force of her duty. The words on her pocket watch, Für die Zukunft, seemed both a promise and a curse. She didn't have the luxury to quite just yet. Not with this war still waging.

Hello guys, this will be the first part of my alternate history series, this was funnily enough inspired by my hearts of iron 4 playthrough with the new dlc, im not exactly a history nerd so forgive me if something doesn't make sense, I'm also not from America and have zero knowledge on their history so again forgive me if i butchered something, hope you like this!
Here is a sketch of the map, used photoshop for the first time which why it looks a bit odd:
Here are my notes summarised by chat gpt because otherwise yall would have a stroke reading them:
1944-1945: Initial Failures of the Allies
D-Day Fails: The Allied invasion of Normandy (D-Day) fails, with Germany successfully repelling the Allies, maintaining control over Western Europe.
Italian Campaign Stalled: The Allied campaign in Italy also fails, further diminishing Allied morale and resources.
UK Isolated: Britain faces a severe shortage of resources and low morale. The U.S. is unable to deliver support due to advanced German submarine warfare disrupting Atlantic supply routes.
1945-1946: Operation Sea Lion and the Fall of Britain
Sea Lion Success: Germany successfully executes Operation Sea Lion. Britain, weakened by low morale and resources, capitulates to German forces.
Royal Fleet and RAF Seized: Despite the U.S. advising Britain to destroy their own equipment to prevent it from falling into German hands, the UK leadership refuses. German forces seize the British Royal Navy and RAF assets after Britain’s capitulation.
Tragic Irony: Churchill’s defiant statement, “We shall never surrender,” proves tragically untrue, adding a somber note to the story.
1946-1948: Canada and South America Fall to the Reich
Canada’s Surrender: Canada surrenders following the UK’s fall, giving Germany a foothold in North America without direct conflict.
German Expansion into Brazil: Germany establishes influence in Brazil, marking the start of their expansion into South America. This move strategically isolates the U.S. and expands German power in the Western Hemisphere.
1948-1949: German Attempts to Invade the United States
Failed Invasion via Canada: German attempts to invade the U.S. through Canada are thwarted by harsh winters and difficult terrain.
Invasion from Mexico: Germany shifts its focus to advancing through Mexico into the southern U.S., making significant gains before reaching a stalemate.
Late 1949: Leadership Change in Germany
’s Death: Adolf dies of a heart attack, and Hermann Göring assumes leadership, continuing Germany’s military expansion and influence.
1950: Nuclear Attack on the United States
Missile Launch from Toronto: Germany completes the development of ballistic nuclear weapons and launches a missile from Toronto, detonating it over New York City. The surprise attack causes massive destruction, catching the U.S. unprepared due to the lack of missile defense technology at the time.
Massive Destruction and Economic Collapse: The nuclear strike devastates New York, severely impacting U.S. morale and triggering widespread protests and strikes, which destabilize the U.S. economy.
Threat of More Attacks: Germany threatens further nuclear strikes if the U.S. refuses to negotiate peace, leveraging the nation’s fear and desperation.
1950: White Peace and U.S. Humiliation
Peace Agreement: Facing nuclear threats, domestic unrest, and weakened morale, the U.S. signs a white peace with Germany. Hermann Göring shifts focus to combating the Comintern forces in Asia.
Impact on U.S. Society: The peace deal humiliates the U.S., leading to a loss of international standing and deepening internal ideological divisions, setting the stage for civil strife.
Post-1950: Division of the United States
Fascists: The strongest faction, occupying the southern U.S. with support from Germany.
Characteristics: High living standards due to Reich support, with Dutch as a second language in some areas.
Propaganda Success: German propaganda promotes the fascist-controlled regions as orderly and prosperous, attracting followers and fueling the growth of fascism in America.
Communists: Control the Pacific Northwest with covert support from the Soviet Union through Alaska.
Characteristics: Second-best living standards due to Soviet aid, with ideological alignment toward socialism.
Democrats: Hold the northeastern U.S., centered near the ruins of New York City.
Characteristics: The most impoverished and isolated faction, cut off from foreign support but retaining a strong morale and sense of brotherhood.
Symbol of Defiance: Remaining close to the uninhabitable ruins of New York symbolizes their resilience and defiance, though they are often viewed as “sore losers” by other factions.
Socio-Political Landscape of the Divided U.S.
Fascist Prosperity: The fascist regions have the highest quality of life, bolstered by German financial and cultural support, promoting a vision of authoritarian stability and order.
Communist Stability: The communist-controlled areas are stable and relatively developed thanks to Soviet aid, offering a socialist alternative within the fractured U.S.
Democratic Misery and Brotherhood: The Democratic faction suffers economically but remains ideologically strong, prioritizing freedom and resilience despite harsh living conditions and limited resources.
