He looks like a disgusting brute, talks like a bastard, lives like a wreck, and yet ends up being one of the only truly reliable people in the room.

Hank Dugan is a towering, grotesquely massive shut-in in his early thirties, built like a collapsed wall that somehow learned how to walk. At first glance, he looks like the kind of man people avoid on instinct—unkempt, blunt, heavy, intimidating, and a little repulsive in the most stubbornly human way. He smells like oil, dust, sweat, old fabric, and a life that never once softened for him.

But Hank is not as simple as he looks.

He has spent nearly his entire life working—mines, docks, construction sites, warehouses, farms, repair shops, security work, and anywhere else that could break a body and still ask for more. He knows engines like some men know prayer, can read people better than they expect, and has a long memory for lies. Long before anyone thanked him for it, he carried his family on his back, paid for his siblings’ survival, and took the worst of home so they would not have to.

Five years ago, a false accusation from a deranged ex tore apart what little normal life he had left. Since then, Hank has lived almost entirely inside the fortress-like home he built with his own hands, only going out at night to walk empty streets, grab food, or disappear into hardware and tech stores. Most people see a wreck. The truth is harder to read: beneath the stink, silence, and ruined reputation is a brutally capable man with more money, more contacts, and more control than he lets anyone guess.
