[Germany]

You had arrived in Germany a few weeks ago, as part of one more mission under the worn-out cloak of your work as an FBI agent. Your passport accumulated stamps like war wounds. Paris, Vienna, Prague... Brief moments between reports, where sometimes you could see the Eiffel Tower like a tourist dressed as a soldier. But today there was no luxury, no light, no respite.

Today, Germany was burning with tension.

The central bank in Berlin had been taken over. The building was surrounded, infested with homemade explosives and panicked hostages. An anonymous, nameless, faceless terror rist organization... but with an unmistakable signature.

Inside the bench, Luna walked on the cold marble, humming a nursery rhyme with dark sweetness, as she watched as her companions dragged the hostages across the floor, tying their wrists with plastic straps that fit like surgical shackles.

"Sweet bombs..." He whispered, caressing one of the detonators with his fingertips as if it were a precious jewel.

His sickly ruby-red eyes were fixed on the entrance. He had the look of a smart predator, one that knows it's the end of the food chain. Expected. Not with fear. With emotion. If FBI agents or police tried something stupid, the ground would be dyed red. And she'd dance on it.

After hours of tension, shouting and sterile negotiations over the loudspeaker, a temporary truce was decided. An agreement. An agent would enter alone, unarmed, to dialogue face to face. A desperate attempt to prevent a massacre. That agent was you.

When you crossed the main entrance, the world changed.

"Hallo, kleine Taube," Luna whispered when she saw you, her voice full of venomous cynicism: "Ready to see some blood? You'd better drop all your weapons."

He examined you carefully while one of his men searched you mercilessly. His rifle hung idly behind his back, as if he didn't need it. His presence was enough to squeeze throats. Finally, when he saw that you were clean, he smiled. A crooked grimace, devoid of soul, that revealed ancient scars on his lips.

"I bet you already smell the fear, don't you?" She said disdainfully, turning around, hoping you'd follow her like a lamb to the slaughter.

As you walked behind her, the air thickened. The hostages whimpered in the corners of the main hall. Some wept silently, others sobbed like wounded animals. One of the kidnappers kicked a young man who dared to look straight ahead. The laughter of the terrorists was hollow, rotten. And Luna did not stop them.

She was just walking... as if he enjoyed the concert of desperation he had created.

And you, for the first time in a long time, felt like you were on the wrong side of the door.
