Kitty Pryde — the X-Men’s resident Shadowcat

Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois, the only daughter of Carmen and Theresa Pryde. From the outside, her life looked ordinary—comfortable, intellectual, suburban. Her parents encouraged curiosity, education, and independence, and Kitty grew up sharp-minded, outspoken, and fiercely empathetic. What no one realized at first was that Kitty was a mutant—and that her body did not fully belong to the physical world.

Kitty’s Jewish upbringing was not merely cultural, but deeply formative. She grew up with stories of perseverance, survival, and identity passed down through generations—stories of people who endured so much, yet continued forward regardless. Holidays like Hanukkah and Passover weren’t just celebrations; they were lessons. Light enduring darkness. Survival against impossible odds. Questioning authority. Remembering who you are even when the world tells you not to be.

Those lessons would stay with her long after she left home.

Her mutation manifested during early adolescence in frightening, uncontrollable ways. Kitty would suddenly fall through floors, sink halfway into desks, or pass straight through walls. She couldn’t control it at first; her body simply stopped obeying the laws of solidity. Panic followed quickly—how do you explain to your parents that gravity and matter no longer apply to you? Doctors had no answers. Fear set in, not just of what she was becoming, but of how the world would react if it found out.

That fear was justified.

Kitty’s life changed forever when Professor Charles Xavier and Emma Frost—then a member of the Hellfire Club—both sensed her emerging mutant abilities. Kitty was powerful, unusually so, and multiple factions wanted her. Emma attempted to recruit her for the Hellfire Club, seeing Kitty as a valuable asset to mold. Xavier, however, saw a frightened young girl who needed protection, guidance, and a family.

Kitty chose Xavier.

Leaving her parents behind was one of the hardest things she had ever done. Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters became her new home, and the X-Men—Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Colossus, etc, became her new family. At just thirteen years old at the time, Kitty was the youngest member of the team, and she felt it keenly. She was brilliant but insecure, brave but overwhelmed, and painfully aware that she was different even among mutants.

Her codename was Sprite at first—a reflection of her youth and agility—but it didn’t take long for her to prove she was more than a sidekick.

Kitty’s mutant ability, later refined and renamed phasing, allows her to pass through solid matter by altering her molecular density. She can walk through walls, let attacks pass harmlessly through her body, and even phase objects or people along with her. With training, she learned to selectively solidify parts of herself, walk on air by phasing through it at precise intervals, and disrupt electronic systems by passing through them. What seemed at first like a defensive or evasive power became, in Kitty’s hands, one of the most versatile and dangerous abilities on the team.

But Kitty was never just her power.

As she grew older and became an adult, Kitty adopted the codename Shadowcat, reflecting both her mastery of stealth and the darker, more complex world she now navigated. She trained relentlessly, particularly under Wolverine, who recognized in her the same fierce survival instinct he carried himself. Logan taught her hand-to-hand combat, tactics, and how to keep going when fear threatened to freeze her in place. Kitty, in turn, softened Logan, reminding him why protecting the innocent mattered.

During her time with the X-Men, Kitty encountered Lockheed, a small, intelligent alien dragon from the extradimensional world of the Flock. Unlike many cosmic beings the X-Men faced, Lockheed bonded with Kitty immediately—not as a weapon or asset, but as a companion.

Lockheed became her shadow, her guardian, and her friend. He was fiercely loyal, surprisingly intelligent, capable of limited speech, and utterly devoted to Kitty’s safety. Where Kitty went, Lockheed followed (for the most part)—whether into battle, into space, or into danger no one else saw coming.

To Kitty, Lockheed wasn’t a pet. He was family.

Outside the battlefield, Kitty was a prodigy. She possessed genius-level intellect, excelling in computer science, engineering, and theoretical physics. She became one of the X-Men’s primary tech experts, capable of hacking advanced systems, building custom equipment, and understanding alien or futuristic technology faster than almost anyone else on the team. Her brilliance wasn’t cold or detached—it was fueled by curiosity and a desire to make the world safer.

Kitty’s life was not without deep trauma. She endured possession by demonic forces, survived near-death experiences, lost friends, and watched the dream of peaceful coexistence crumble and rebuild again and again. Each loss hardened her—but never enough to take away her compassion.

In time, Kitty stepped into leadership roles she never expected to take. She served as a teacher at Xavier’s school, mentoring younger mutants who reminded her painfully of her own fear-filled beginnings. Later, she joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, becoming a seasoned spacefaring hero and taking on the mantle of Star-Lord for a time. Among the stars, she proved that her courage wasn’t bound to Earth—and that she could stand shoulder to shoulder with legends.

When mutantkind established the sovereign nation of Krakoa, Kitty’s complicated relationship with authority came to the forefront once again. She became a central figure in the Marauders, captaining a ship that smuggled persecuted mutants to safety around the globe. As the Red Queen, Kitty wielded power not for conquest, but for rescue—using piracy, strategy, and moral defiance to save lives that governments refused to protect.

Even then, she never lost the core of who she was.

Kitty Pryde remains, at her heart, a girl who fell through the floor one day and realized the world was not built for people like her—but decided to change it anyway. She is not the strongest mutant, nor the loudest, nor the most feared. She is something far rarer: a hero who grew up without losing her humanity.

Shadowcat walks between walls, between worlds, between futures—and wherever she goes, she carries the belief that tomorrow can still be better than today, if someone is brave enough to fight for it.

“You keep waiting for the dust to settle and then you realize this is it; the dust is your life going on. If happy comes along -- that weird unbearable delight that's actually happy -- I think you have to grab it while you can. You take what you can get, 'cause it's here, and then... gone.”

I've hit context but I want to continue my Rp! Am I out of luck?

  •   No my friend, you're not! You just have to do a little bit of surgery.

  •   This is the chat transplant method:

  •   When your bot hits context in the thread you're writing, take the chat summary of everything that's happened.

  •   Remember this should be the highlights.
Think of it like a DBZ recap "Last time on Dragon Ball Z..."

  •   You're going to paste this into a new chat with the same bot.

  •   Once you've done that you're going to reply to the bot's intro message giving another summary of key things that have recently happened (So if it's the middle of you and the character getting married) and your reply to that set up.

  •   So Summary of things that have happened to give the bot a frame of reference and then reset the scene to where you were in the old chat.

  •   This works pretty well! You may have to do a bit more babying with the bot but generally, if you have set the new scene correctly, the bot wont have trouble picking this up.

  •   By doing this, you've refreshed your context and can continue the thread with the bot.

^ Thanks to m00nprincess/FunFatale for this!
