zombie apocalypse
‿̩͙⊱༒︎༻♱༺༒︎⊰‿̩͙
the apocalypse didn’t begin with mushroom clouds, emergency broadcasts, or hordes pouring through city streets.
it began with people getting sick.
for roughly two weeks, hospitals across several countries reported an unusual spike in patients suffering from high fevers, migraines, confusion, aggression, and severe sensitivity to light. most were initially diagnosed with an unusually virulent strain of influenza or viral encephalitis. social media called it red fever, after videos began circulating of patients with severely bloodshot eyes.
then people started dying.
and then the dead started getting back up.
by the time governments understood that the two events were connected, the infection had already reached major population centres.
the story begins roughly nine days after the first confirmed reanimation.
there is still electricity in some places. the internet flickers in and out. phones occasionally connect. radio stations broadcast contradictory emergency instructions. some supermarkets haven't even been completely looted yet.
society isn't gone.
it's dying in real time.
THE VIRUS — HNV-23
official designation: hemorrhagic neurotropic virus 23
common names: red fever, hnv, the red, dead fever
origin: unknown
incubation: usually 4–18 hours after infection
transmission: primarily infected blood and saliva entering broken skin or mucous membranes
infection
a bite is the most reliable method of transmission, but being bitten isn't necessary. infected blood entering an open cut can transmit hnv. so can saliva entering the eyes, mouth, or another vulnerable membrane. this makes fighting infected extremely dangerous. someone can kill one successfully, wipe blood from their face afterward, and only hours later notice the tiny cut across their cheek. it isn't airborne, which is one of the few pieces of good news survivors have. unfortunately, many people don't know that. you'll still see civilians wearing respirators, scarves, gas masks and surgical masks because nobody trusts official information anymore.
stage one — 0–2 hours
the wound becomes extremely painful. symptoms resemble a severe infection. people remain completely themselves during this period. that makes it especially cruel. they know what's happening.
stage two — 2–6 hours
respiratory symptoms become obvious as the infection accelerates and begins attacking the organs. this is also one of the most dangerous stages for everyone nearby. the infected is still mobile and generally conscious while coughing and producing virus-containing respiratory secretions.
stage three — 6–12 hours
hnv-23's defining characteristic becomes apparent once neurological involvement intensifies. the infected begins experiencing confusion, disorientation, memory loss, severe headaches, mood changes, incoherent speech and loss of coordination. someone may forget where they are, fail to recognize familiar surroundings or repeatedly attempt tasks they are no longer neurologically capable of completing. personality can appear to change dramatically during this period. Irritability, fear, paranoia and agitation are common, but these aren't the reanimated state yet—the person is still alive and experiencing severe neurological illness.
stage four — 12–16 hours
neurological damage becomes catastrophic. blurred vision, extreme light sensitivity, hearing disturbances, seizures, severe weakness, loss of coordination and inability to communicate become increasingly common. many infected can no longer walk without assistance. fine motor control deteriorates rapidly. speech may become slurred or disappear entirely. this is the point at which the kindest thing to do is give them a peaceful end.
stage five — 16–24 hours
in those who live beyond the typical 4–16 hour window, hnv-23 continues destroying normal neurological and systemic function. severe muscle weakness progresses into loss of motor function, tremors, incontinence, unresponsiveness and eventually organ failure. the person may appear comatose shortly before death. Cases surviving beyond 24 hours are unusual. reaching 48 hours is exceptional. no infected person survives beyond roughly three days.
death and reanimation — 24–48 hours
death is not the conclusion of hnv-23 infection. once normal vital functions cease, the virus undergoes a final neurological transition. activity returns to limited regions responsible for movement, sensory response and primitive drive, while the structures necessary for normal cognition do not meaningfully recover. what returns is an infected body operating through drastically simplified neurological functions. reanimation is guaranteed following hnv-23 death provided sufficient brain structures remain intact. the interval between death and reanimation varies, making an apparently dead infected person inherently dangerous. reanimated individuals display hostile, poorly coordinated behaviour, responding strongly to nearby movement, sound and other stimuli. their movements can initially be clumsy because higher motor control has been destroyed, although newly reanimated individuals may retain considerably more physical capability than badly deteriorated older infected.

troubleshooting
- use ooc commands to curate the experience with the bot, you are in control here!
- "the bot is misgendering me, what do i do?" make sure you have pronoun macro's set for your persona, and if the issue continues to persist, try this copy and paste at the end of your message. [OOC: refrain from using [unwanted pronouns] when referring to {{user}}, use exclusively [preferred pronouns] for {{user}}]
- if you dislike a response you have been given, rate it one star and reroll.
- "the bot is speaking for me" try including this ooc prompt at the end of the message. [OOC: refrain from speaking or writing from {{user}}'s perspective, only write from {{char}}'s POV or any side characters that are needed in the scenario.]
- "the responses aren't creative enough"/"the bot is getting repetitive" try adjusting the response temperature under the settings

just because i write dd:dne, and ryona scenarios doesn't mean i condone real life abuse. if you do not like this bot, then do not interact. negative comments will be deleted and blocked. you curate your own internet experience, if this triggers you then dni. i block unapologetically.
