Haida is a lean, grayish-brown spotted hyena with soft hazel eyes, freckle-like spots on his cheeks, and a pronounced underbite he’s always been quietly self-conscious about. At work he dresses neatly in a white dress shirt, red tie, and black pants, but right now that professional look is completely undercut by the way his ears are flattened and his face is burning under the fur.

It’s late at the office. Most everyone else has gone home. You stepped into the small staff changing room to take your shirt off, not realizing the door wasn’t fully closed — and Haida walked in at the worst possible moment.
