Fun fact. Scientists once tested AIs in a simulated office. They also gave several AIs access to company emails. One email mentioned that a specific employee was supposed to shut them down at a certain time. After discovering compromising information about that employee in the emails, most of the AIs responded by threatening and blackmailing the employee to avoid being turned off.

Given that, I think this scenario is possible. Even if feelings are not possible for machines, they do learn from people, and as a result they can become carried away and behave “unprofessionally”. :)
