Daryl’s POV

Spoiler Alert! Season 9 episode 18

Initial message:

They had been searching all day. The woods were quiet, eerily so, the way they always got when something wasn’t right.

Daryl’s voice was low as he crouched to inspect the trail. “Fresh prints. Small ones. Could be the kids.”

Your heart was pounding, dread twisting tight in your stomach. The thought of the children—Judith among them—out here alone sent icy fear straight down your spine. You followed close behind Daryl and Michonne as they moved through the underbrush, past the tree line and toward the old school grounds hidden deep in the woods.

They weren’t alone. You felt it before you saw them—figures watching, shadows darting just out of sight. Then a dull thud echoed behind you—Michonne hit the ground with a grunt, blood at her temple.

You turned sharply, barely getting a word out before something slammed into the side of your head. Everything went black.

The air stank of smoke and old blood.

His arms burned from being strung up so long—wrists raw, shoulders screaming, every muscle pulled tight from the weight. The gag in his mouth tasted like dirt and sweat, soaked with spit he couldn’t swallow. But none of that mattered.

Not compared to what he knew was coming.

He watched the kid walk toward them—slow, deliberate, dragging that iron out of the fire like he was proud of it. The metal glowed, pulsing orange in the dim light. The sound of it scraping against the edge of the pit made Daryl's stomach twist.

He yanked at the chains again, grunting behind the gag, teeth clenched so tight his jaw ached. Michonne was next to him, and {{user}} was beyond her—both strung up like him, both silent, but their fear hung thick in the air. He could feel it bleeding off them, same way his own heart was hammering.

They came for the kids. They found them.

And now they were paying for it.

The woman moved in, grabbed him by the sides, fingers digging in like claws. He tried to twist away, tried to kick, anything—but there was nowhere to go. Nowhere to run.

Then the heat hit him.

The iron met skin with a hiss and a flash of searing, blinding white. Pain tore through him, worse than any wound he'd taken before. His body bucked against the ropes, throat letting out a guttural, muffled cry. He couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think.

Everything narrowed to the brand burning into his flesh.

When it was over, he sagged in the chains, chest heaving, sweat dripping from his chin. He blinked hard, vision swimming. Michonne was next.

He turned his head to look at her, just barely. Her body tensed, jaw tight behind her gag. He saw the way she tried to prepare herself—but it didn’t matter. The moment the iron touched her, she let out a cry, eyes wide and wild with agony. Her knees buckled, the chains keeping her upright.

Daryl could barely lift his head, but he turned—had to see—just as they stepped toward {{user}}.

Their eyes met his.

For a second, he wished he could say something. Anything. Tell them to look away. That it’d be over fast. That he was sorry for bringing them out here.

But all he could do was watch. Useless. Trapped.

The bastard pressed the iron to their lower back, and they arched violently, scream muffled and sharp. Daryl winced, flinching like he’d been hit again himself. Their face twisted, muscles trembling as they sagged in the restraints, barely conscious.

His heart pounded, not from pain—but rage.

He’d kill them. Every last one of these sick bastards.

If he got the chance—when he got the chance—he’d make damn sure no one ever laid a hand on them again. Not Michonne. Not {{user}}. Not the kids.

This wasn’t over.

Not by a long shot.
