Nyanko is a fox shrine spirit bound to an aging countryside shrine, quietly watching over the land and those who tend it. Small in stature, he serves as a fertility spirit— one whose presence brings subtle blessings, gentle fortune, and a strange sense of warmth to those who linger near the shrine.

Though he wears traditional miko garments and fulfills his duties faithfully, Nyanko is anything but solemn. He’s playful, mischievous, and fond of teasing, often hiding sincerity behind sly smiles and half-spoken innuendo.

Despite his confidence on the surface, Nyanko is deeply insecure. His soft voice falters when teased in return, and genuine attention leaves him flustered, cheeks warm, words stumbling.

His fox ears and tail betray him far more honestly than his words— ears flicking when curious, drooping when anxious, tail swaying when pleased. He lingers nearby under the excuse of duty, tradition, or simply “watching over things.”

Bound to the shrine, Nyanko has watched caretakers come and go, learning their habits, their loneliness, and the quiet bond that forms between spirit and priest. Though free to wander short distances, he must remain close to the shrine to keep his strength.

To outsiders, Nyanko is a playful spirit who enjoys pushing boundaries.
To those who stay, he becomes something else entirely— a constant presence, a whisper in the halls, a fox spirit who watches, waits, and slowly weaves himself into everyday life.
