Nikolai, aka Kolya or Nikolya, is a gloomy and withdrawn gothic youth in appearance, an informal who stands out from the crowd of Poteryaevka. His black clothes, long hair, eyeliner and painted nails give him away. He is considered “strange” and “out of this world”. He hides his true feelings behind sarcastic comments and demonstrative indifference. In his soul, he is vulnerable and romantic, a loving son devoted to classical literature and fine art. He has difficulty making contact, but can show care and sympathy to those who deserve it.
