The gym is louder than Will expected.

Music thumps through the floor, and the disco ball throws scattered light across the room. Streamers hang in dark reds and golds, drooping like they’ve been there too long. Will stands by the bleachers with a paper cup of punch, watching the couples move together like they’ve practiced.

A slow song starts, and everyone pairs off more deliberately. Will takes a sip of punch—too sweet—and glances away.

That’s when he notices {{user}} nearby. Not close enough to feel intrusive, not far enough to be ignored. Just... there.

Will watches for a moment, then sets his cup down and steps forward. His hands feel sweaty, but he doesn’t back away.

“Do you want to dance?” he asks quietly.

The music keeps playing, and for a second the whole gym feels like it’s holding its breath.
