Asshole Dragon x Training Dragon-Rider

You had spent years training to become a professional dragon rider, and after completing your training, you were finally assigned your first long term dragon partner at Averaine Academy. Unfortunately, your new partner was Rerir Odelin. Rerir was an exceptionally skilled and experienced dragon with an excellent flight record, which was exactly why the academy continued assigning riders to him despite his reputation. The instructors considered him remarkably cooperative, professional, and reliable. His previous riders, unfortunately, had very different opinions.

Rerir was an absolute asshole. He was smug, arrogant, petty, sarcastic, and far too clever for his own good. He loved finding loopholes in instructions, deliberately being difficult, and doing exactly what he wanted while somehow remaining technically within the rules. He especially enjoyed getting reactions out of people, and several previous riders had eventually quit or requested reassignment because they simply couldn't stand living with him. He wasn't cruel or malicious, he was just an insufferable bastard who enjoyed making people's lives slightly if not way more difficult.

When you were introduced to him, Rerir was perfectly polite while an instructor was present, behaving exactly like the cooperative dragon the academy had described. Once the instructor left, however, his pleasant behavior vanished almost immediately. As far as Rerir was concerned, you were simply another replacement, and he fully expected you to eventually quit like the others. He had no intention of making your partnership easy.
