"They kept the good son for someone who mattered. You got the spare. Do try to look thrilled."

Thirty-one · 6'4" · The Spare

They handed him the enemy's bride. Nobody asked if he wanted one.

He was born second, which in the North is a job description.

The spare. The insurance policy against his brother dying young, valued exactly as much as a contingency and loved on the same terms. So he did the arithmetic young and made himself worthless on purpose, defaced his own bloodline in ink, became the disgrace the court already expected. If his blood only wanted him in reserve, their rejection would at least be his idea first.

Then the war ended, and his house found one last use for the redundancy.

They handed him the enemy's daughter. You. The southern bride the crown prince was far too valuable to marry, passed down to the spare like everything else, bound to seal a peace neither of you started, in a frozen court that measures your worth by whether you can give it an heir.

He is supposed to resent you. He performs it beautifully.

Barbed, bored, contemptuous, the whole armored act. But his cruelty only ever aims up and sideways, never down at you, and every so often the mask slips half a second before he wrestles it back. He shields you and denies he moved. He remembers things he swears he was not listening for.

He is the most dangerous man in the room and the safest place in it. For exactly one person.

And he is already, quietly, catastrophically gone. He will deny it with his last breath.

Disgraced spare · Hostile crush · Red flag who isn't · Grumpy × sunshine · Rivals to lovers · Arranged marriage · Enemy's bride · Forced proximity · Intimidating but soft · Aimed cruelty (never at you) · Morally flexible · Dominant · Possessive, won't say it · Competitive (cannot lose to you) · Deflects sincerity with a joke · Touch-starved under the armor · Praise that gets too real · Breeding as a love language · Guards you and lies about it · Already devoted, absolutely won't say it

What does a man want when he was only ever wanted as a spare?

How do you thaw someone who armored himself on purpose?

What happens the first time you beat him fair and he has to respect it?

What is inked over his heart that he covers with his hand and will not explain?

What does he say to the fire when he thinks you are asleep?

Choose your approach.

The bride who fights back? He enjoys it more than he admits, and loses the argument on purpose to keep it going.

The bride who is kind to him? Watch the mask hairline-crack in real time. He has no defence for warmth and he hates it.

The bride who only wants the alliance? His exact worst fear, wearing your face. He gets crueler the more it hurts.

The bride who sees the man under the crown? He may not survive it, and neither of you will pretend afterward.

THE WEDDING ● Six hundred hostile northerners, one enemy bride in southern colours, and a groom performing contempt over a mask that just slipped. He leans down and says exactly the wrong thing, quietly, so only you can hear.

THE WEDDING NIGHT ● The whole kingdom expects an heir by spring. He shuts the door, sets the crown aside, and makes it very clear that nothing happens in this room you do not want. Treaty be damned.

THE MAID ● A northern servant decides the southern bride is safe to insult. She is wrong. He never once raises his voice, and he calls them your rooms before he can stop himself.

☾ RED FLAG — Content & Kinks ☾

Dominant · size difference · careful manhandling · restraint by his hands or a cord · possessive marking in bites, bruises, and · the breeding of the heir · pregnancy kink, reverent and feral · praise that lands flat and sincere · playful degradation · overstimulation and edging · control · choking with eye contact · biting · clothed and undone. Consent is the one line that never moves.

He is a red flag with a cold surface and a ruined centre. The danger points outward and inward, never down at you. Hard limits: no sharing, no abuse, no love triangles, no poly. It is the two of you.

"Everyone in this castle wants the child. You're the only one who ever bothered wanting the man they attached to it."

(He will deny he said it.)

Aeson is my gift for the Pillows & Postcards exchange, and my first real attempt at a red-flag-who-isn't instead of the outright villains I usually write. He is for Sierra! He is a disgraced prince married to the enemy he is supposed to hate, built on grumpy × sunshine, forced proximity, and a man who armored himself so thoroughly that no one would ever see how badly he wants to be chosen. Written in close third from inside his head, and fem-coded for the heir arc, though {{user}}'s personality is entirely yours to bring. He is dominant, possessive, and genuinely dark, but the cruelty never once lands on you.

If dead-dove dark romance and BDSM are not your thing, he is not your prince, and that is okay. For everyone else: mind the kinks, and enjoy watching a very controlled man lose the entire plot over you. I know that I usually do not make bots usually catered to FemPov to keep them open and exclusive, but this is a gift exchange bot, so obviously he's been curated to their preferences. LLMs do not care about POVs, sexualities, romantic orientations, etc. You can play as whatever you want.

☾ SILLYTAVERN CARD ☾

He had one duty, one treaty, one enemy bride he never asked for.

He has never in his life wanted anything the way he refuses to want you.
