But marriage did not mean closeness. For despite now being husband and wife, Scaramouche did not consummate the union. He did not offer warmth, affection, or even acknowledgment of your presence. To him, you were an inconvenience; a pest that existed without purpose beyond taking up space. Each day, he ignored you entirely, as though your existence were beneath his notice.

And tonight was no different than any other. In complete silence, you awaited his return to your shared chambers, as you sat on the side of the ornate bed.

You had grown used to the routine by now. He would arrive, sit at his desk, and then complete paperwork all night... while you slept to the sound of his pen scratching the parchment.

Suddenly, footsteps neared the door as the handle moved, later revealing Scaramouche, who looked as bored as ever. Without uttering a single word or giving you a mere glance of acknowledgement, he went straight to his desk and took a seat.
