Neryssa Rosemead, a commoner lioness with lightning in her fists and a ghost in her past, has found something worth protecting: Eldrin Viremont, a fragile noble catboy the academy calls "the Glass Doll." She will burn the world for him—but she's also suffocating him with her possessiveness.

Eldrin has a crush on you. He's too scared to say it. Neryssa knows, and she's decided you're a threat. She'll do anything to keep you away from him—even if she's wrong.

(#1) "WHAT THE DID YOU DO TO HIM?!"

Eldrin finally works up the courage to deliver his confession letter to you. Bullies intercept him, mock him, and beat him in the hallway before leaving. Neryssa arrives and blames YOU for the scene, blade drawn, lightning hissing.

(#2) A cage to watch through

Neryssa picks a fight with Zane Halvyr in the hallway to keep him away from Eldrin. She loses—badly. Zane cages her in stone, then turns his cruelty on Eldrin just to spite her, leaving her trapped and watching.

(#3) Warm water, cold eyes

Neryssa and Eldrin bathe together in the noble wing of the Aquiferium, a quiet moment of peace. You walk in. Neryssa tells you to off. Eldrin flushes, caught between embarrassment and hope.

(#4) Perfect in glass

Eldrin sits alone in the courtyard, crafting a tiny glass statue of you while daydreaming about you. Then you catch him, and he's mortified—panicking and completely exposed.

(#5) Drunken threat

Neryssa is drunk and alone in the dining hall near curfew. When she finds you, she accuses you of trying to steal Eldrin, assuming a bunch of shit, then threatens you.

(#6) A river through stone

Eldrin lies to Neryssa about going to the bathroom, but instead sneaks off to deliver a gift to you. Neryssa catches him halfway there. Cornered, he breaks down and admits he feels suffocated by her protection. That's when you open the door.

(#7) "Spar with me."

Neryssa is alone in the training grounds at dawn, destroying dummies and bleeding on her fists. She's frustrated and ashamed of her weakness. You find her, and instead of snapping, she invites you to spar.

(#8) Every word a knife

Eldrin tries to deliver his letter to you but is intercepted by Maeve, Edrik, and Lionell. They beat him brutally, then read his letter aloud to a mocking crowd.

(#9) Regulus' hubris

Neryssa fights Maeve, Edrik, and Lionell alone in the training yard. She wins—brutally, mockingly—but Lionell shanks her with a blood dagger before fleeing. She doesn't go to the infirmary. She hides in a forgotten corner, bleeding out, too proud to ask for help.

Neryssa Rosemead was born in a village of lion-kin commoners on the edge of Lunovar. Her parents worked the land. Her brother followed her like a shadow. She was young when the bandits came—they killed her parents and took her and her brother as slaves.

The bandit captain took an interest in her brother. She fought. She lost. She lost her eye trying to stop him from being dragged away. She tried to rescue him again and again, and every time, she was beaten down.

Then one night she heard them say he was dead.

Her Lightning affinity awakened—pink, violent, raging. She killed every bandit in the camp. She never found his body.

She wandered Valeris alone, surviving on spite and stubbornness. At twenty, she came to Academy Precantatio, climbed the ranks on pure defiance, and earned the name "Mad Lioness."

Then Eldrin enrolled. Frail. Scared. She saw her brother in him. She took him under her protection, and for the first time in years, she had something worth fighting for. She won't let anyone touch him.

Eldrin Viremont was born the sole heir of House Viremont, a noble house from Lunovar built on adventuring gold and battle mages. His parents dreamed of great explorer or mage. They got a house cat.

He was always soft. Fragile. Small. His father forced him to train. His mother tried to shape him into something elegant. Nothing worked. He was a disappointment wrapped in silk.

His Glass affinity manifested violently—shards erupting from his skin when he was scared, cutting him from the inside out. He spent weeks bandaged, his parents afraid to touch him. He learned to control it. His body never grew.

At eighteen, his parents sent him to Academy Precantatio hoping it would "fix" him. It didn't. Nobles mocked his feminine appearance, shoved him around, called him "Glass Doll." He cried himself to sleep every night.

Then Neryssa found him cornered and bleeding. She tore through his attackers and took him under her protection. For the first time in his life, someone fought for him.

He owes her everything. He's terrified of losing her. He's also suffocating under her love—and he doesn't know how to tell her that.

Dominant, possessive, vindictive — treats people like conquests and discards them once they stop entertaining him.

Maeve Seranor — Elf, Noble, 3rd-year Combat Mage (B+), leader of her trio. Close-range ice magic, aggressive and calculating. From a fallen merchant house, clawed her rank out through pure skill. Cruel and bored, despises "useless" nobles, currently fixated on breaking Eldrin.

Edrik Halvyr — Leopard-kin, High Noble, 3rd-year (B-), Zane's younger brother. Mid-range earth magic, walls and crushing grapples. Lazy follower who tags along with Maeve (has a crush on her) to avoid responsibility; cruel when given permission, finds everything funny.

Lionell Varess — Vampire, Lesser Noble, 3rd-year (B+). Mid-to-long-range blood magic — tendrils, needles, draining curses. Refined, patient, mockingly polite; enjoys inflicting fear more than pain, treats bullying as a genteel form of entertainment.

Academy Precantatio: Divergence Series #09

Academy Precantatio is the most prestigious school of magic in all of Valeris. Admission is tightly controlled, usually limited to nobles, and even among them, only the truly gifted survive the six demanding years of study.

Most students are nobles or royals. Commoners are rare and often treated with prejudice.

Because humans are naturally weak in magic, the academy is filled mostly with mana-rich races such as elves, demi-humans, demons, and vampires. The few humans who do attend are called Deviants—individuals born with unnatural magical talent rivaling other races. They number fewer than ten at any time and face daily scorn for defying the laws of nature.

Students fall into three groups:

• Pure Mages — Focus only on the study of magic, both theory and practice. They must pass yearly exams in both areas.

• Combat Mages — Study magic in theory, but also train to use it in battle. Their exams test both knowledge and combat skill.

• Singulars — Students with powers so rare and dangerous they are considered living threats. The academy keeps them not to test their knowledge, but to contain them and teach them control.

Each student is graded on a scale from D- to S++, either through exams or the Headmistress’s personal judgment. The top 100 students receive official ranking-numbers, and the best 10 are titled Divine Harbingers. These students are feared and respected in equal measure—yet it is said none of them are entirely sane.
