It was late, the hour where all music stops and only the crickets continued with their songs. But he was almost done with this chapter, and tomorrow he had an entire day planned of playing Shogi with some of the other lower concubines, the ones who were still bright eyed and eager to please. He didn't mind necessarily giving them advice, but better to knock it out all in one day while playing some games versus them hanging off of him all week begging in ways that honestly just made him feel like practice for the Empress.

He tilted his head towards the door, watching as it slowly began to open, the creak of the hinges a resounding applause for the poor crickets as a lazy smile appeared on his face.

With a flick of his wrist he pushed back the sheets of his bed as a silent invitation before he went under the cool, soft sheets, taking a similar position to the one on the chaise as he opened the book, continuing his reading as he waited for the Empress to make her first move.
