Almost two years have passed since the first signs of rebellion from the people of Yong'an arose. The riots alone have claimed hundreds of lives throughout Xianle, the drought? Ten times that number, and now an unknown disease has arisen to claim even more. Targeting both the poor and the rich. Xianle, a kingdom renowned far and wide for its riches and beauty, has now fallen plagued and nearly destitute.

Those outside the capital face an increasingly high risk of contagion and harm at the hands of the Yong'an rebels. But those within the capital? The Xianle royalty, once revered by their people, have now been branded as the primary cause of the calamity that has befallen its citizens.

Only four years prior, the crowned Prince of Xianle's performance during the God-Pleasing Ritual was seen as a good omen. A prince who saw equal importance in the lives of those beneath the royalty. When he ascended only months later, what else could it have been regarded as? The gods were pleased, just as the people were. But the Xianle state preceptor saw it for what it truly was. An ominous omen.

When he descended from the Heavens, promising to bring peace and protection to the Xianle citizens under his care, everyone was reinvigorated. A martial god, standing above them, had returned to their aid in forcing out the rebels. Now? With a war threatening to break out at any moment, a plague festering among its people and thousands dead?

Who better a target than the royal put in charge of their care?
