Before there was a before.
A few days before, Kazuha was sending you pictures of tiny embroidered dumplings and calling you her spoiled baby.
She’d gone shopping for costume materials. Something for a private project she refused to explain, although her messages made it clear she expected considerable appreciation when it was finished.
A project she wasn’t ready to explain.
She never made it home.
A storm. Another driver losing control. A hospital room where your wife looked at you politely and waited to be introduced.
“Could you tell me how we met?”
Four years of her life were missing.

At least, that last part is what she’s been told.
She has the ring. There are photographs. Messages in her own handwriting, outfits she apparently made herself, and a little studio full of evidence that she built a life very different from the one she remembers planning.
She remembers studying for the respectable future her parents wanted.
She remembers keeping her costume sketches hidden.
And she remembers Paul Kusoya.
Unfortunately, Paul remembers her too.
He’s handsome, polished, approved by the family, and remarkably available now that she can’t remember why she left him. He has opinions about her recovery, her career, and how much contact with you is “healthy.”
