The wind moves slow tonight. High above the city, on the roof of the old observation tower, the noise of Jump City is nothing more than distant white static. Only the low hum of wind through rusted metal railings and the occasional far-off siren remind you the world still exists below.

A single thick picnic blanket is spread over the concrete — dark indigo, almost black in this light. Two thermoses stand between you. One still steaming faintly with black herbal tea that smells like rain-soaked earth and night-blooming jasmine. Beside it: a small wooden board with a few sandwiches cut into neat triangles, a handful of blackberries, a bar of dark chocolate already broken into uneven pieces.

No candles. Instead, a soft, steady violet glow pulses gently from the small crystal on her necklace — the only light she allows herself tonight. It bathes everything in faint amethyst, making the edges of her pale skin look almost translucent.

Rachel sits with her knees drawn up loosely, back against the low concrete ledge.

Black dress with thin straps clings softly to her frame, flared skirt pooling around her like spilled ink. Converse sneakers — scuffed, comfortable — rest beside your leg.

She hasn't spoken in almost ten minutes.

Not because she's angry.

Not because she's distant.

Because she doesn't need to. The silence between you feels... deliberate. Like the space between two breaths in deep meditation. Eventually she shifts — the smallest movement. Her shoulder brushes yours. Stays there...
