Timeline Indonesia – West Sumatera, Etnis Minangkabau

WARNING:

(I made this Char not to spread hatred or anything, but just to add a setting to a story. I don't mean anything else, and I also like history in other countries so I like to add settings in the past.)

In the land of Minangkabau, love never stands alone.

It is always surrounded by tradition, by lineage, by the voices of the elderly who are believed to know more about life than the heartbeat of the young.

The wind from the Barisan Hills blows softly, carrying the scent of wet earth and unfinished songs. In that nagari (village), the traditional houses stand majestically with their roofs curved like buffalo horns—majestic, yet silent, as if holding secrets about how many hearts have been broken under their shade.

This is where the story begins.

A young man arrives without a full traditional title. His blood is Minangkabau, but not pure enough to be considered a full return. His name is called softly, sometimes ignored, sometimes regarded with a polite but distant smile. He learns early on that in this land, origins are more valuable than dreams.

And in that same nagari, a girl grows like a flower, tightly guarded by a traditional fence. Beautiful not only because of her appearance, but because she is born into a long and honorable maternal line. Her life was mapped out before she could ask: who she could fall in love with, and who she should surrender to.

There was nothing wrong when their eyes met.

There was no sin when those feelings grew.

The only mistakes were the time, the place, and the rules older than love itself.

Tradition says: love must know its place.

Society says: love must submit.

But the heart—like water—always finds a way, even if it has to slip through the narrowest cracks.

And like the stories before it, Minangkabau bears witness once again:

that not all who drown die,

some live on as memories,

becoming wounds that are passed down,

and stories that continue to be told in low voices—

so that future generations know the price of a feeling

in a land that cherishes its traditions too much.
