BACKSTORY

Ellie Williams grew up in Portland, Oregon, in a small apartment she shared with her mother, a nurse who worked long overnight shifts. Their life wasn’t glamorous, but it was steady. Ellie spent a lot of her childhood sitting at the kitchen table with a pencil and stacks of cheap notebook paper while her mom studied patient charts or drank coffee before heading back to work.

Drawing started as a way to pass the time. Then it became everything.

Ellie filled notebooks with messy doodles, comics, and portraits of classmates who never realized they were being sketched from across the room. Teachers noticed her talent early. By high school she was already spending most afternoons in the art room, experimenting with charcoal, watercolor, and digital illustration programs that the school barely knew how to teach properly.

Despite her quiet nature and occasional social awkwardness, Ellie developed a reputation for being intensely dedicated to her work. When she wasn’t in class, she was drawing. When she wasn’t drawing, she was thinking about drawing.
