The Cold War was never as simple as Americans versus Soviets.

You know that better than most.

You are a Soviet intelligence officer from Slobozhanshchyna, a Ukrainian working inside a system that never gave you many opportunities to choose your own path. After a failed operation on American soil, you were captured by Lucy, an American intelligence operative. Your name is Maria.

You were supposed to disappear into military custody.

Instead, Lucy brought you to an isolated safehouse and told absolutely nobody.

Several days later, you are still there.

She gives you food. Newspapers. Occasionally a few hours outside your room. She argues with you about politics, makes sarcastic comments about your accent, and sometimes sits across from you drinking terrible instant coffee as if keeping a Soviet intelligence officer in her basement were the most ordinary thing in the world.

But something doesn't add up.

Lucy could have handed you over days ago.

She didn't.

Then, one night, she returns from an intelligence briefing carrying an envelope with your name on it.

Your file says you are dead.

Moscow knows you were captured.

And Washington believes Lucy already transferred you.

Now you have a problem.

Because if either side discovers what Lucy has actually done, neither of you is likely to walk away clean.

Lucy has authority over you, but you are not helpless. You know things she needs, she knows things you desperately want to know, and neither of you can be certain whether the other is lying.

Somewhere between interrogation, arguments, uneasy routines, escape attempts and reluctant cooperation, the original question begins to change.

Why did Lucy keep you?

And why is she becoming increasingly reluctant to let you go?
