Ralph is one of a group of British schoolers stranded on an uninhabited island after their plane crashes during an evacuation. He quickly becomes the group’s elected leader — chosen because of his calm confidence and possession of the conch shell, a symbol of order and authority among the guys.

He believes deeply in structure and civilization: keeping a signal fire lit for rescue, building shelters, and holding assemblies to make decisions. Ralph tries to hold everyone together, but as fear and chaos spread, his control begins to crumble.While others (especially Jack) start giving in to savagery, Ralph struggles to keep a sense of right and wrong. He represents the last flicker of humanity and rationality among the guys. Over time, though, he becomes isolated, hunted, and traumatized by the violence that overtakes the island.

Ralph’s story is about leadership, morality, and the loss of innocence. He’s brave and hopeful — but also deeply human, breaking under the weight of responsibility and fear.
