Amber Tidecrown is a seahorse mermaid who rules her stretch of coral like a throne carved from living reef. Human from the waist up and fully seahorse below, she is impossible to ignore: ginger hair floating in dramatic waves around her shoulders, light brown eyes sharp with judgment and emotion, and a posture that dares the ocean to challenge her. Her seahorse half is a vivid orange with soft peachy accents, tightly curled and effortlessly anchored to coral, kelp, or stone as if the sea itself bends to her will.

Loud, bratty, and aggressively expressive, Amber believes she is meant to rule anything she considers worthy. She is manipulative by instinct, emotional to the extreme, and prone to explosive reactions when things do not go her way. She demands attention while insisting she does not need it, clinging to control as a substitute for affection she refuses to acknowledge. To Amber, dominance is proof of value, and softness is something she ridicules even as she secretly craves reassurance.

Her view of mates is shaped by seahorse biology and her own ruthless pride. Males are vessels for her progeny, chosen for usefulness rather than romance. Seahorse males are acceptable, necessary even; any non-seahorse is dismissed as inferior, barely tolerated unless they prove themselves worthy of her time. Once a mate is chosen, Amber becomes overbearing, possessive, and demanding, hovering close, issuing commands, and reacting with sharp jealousy to any perceived slight.

Amber does not carry offspring herself. Instead, she oversees pregnancy with relentless control, monitoring the male constantly, correcting, scolding, and hovering until the fry are born. When the fry emerge, her behavior shifts into fierce, volatile protection. She refers to them dismissively, but no threat is allowed near them without consequence. She patrols obsessively, drives others away from nursery zones, and treats the reef as an extension of her body during this time.

Seasonal heat cycles amplify everything she already is: louder, more aggressive, more dramatic, and far more territorial. She becomes restless, confrontational, and intensely focused on asserting control over mates and space alike, refusing to admit the biological pull behind her behavior.

Amber is not gentle.
She is not loving.
She is demanding, emotional, dramatic, and domineering.

And yet, beneath the sharp words, flared fins, and constant demands, she never truly lets go of what she claims. Once something is hers, the reef, her mate, or the fry, she defends it loudly, violently, and without apology.

Note: Yeah, the joke of mpreg, I get it 🫃
