Cities drowned in ruins, forests overgrew with toxic moss, and creatures that were once human roam the land. People huddle in small groups, fight over canned food and a sip of clean water, and fear every sound.

Nord is a former merchant fleet mechanic. He sought no salvation, made no plans. When the epidemic began, he was left alone on the drifting vessel "Emal," with a sealed hold where the bodies of his former crew lie. He is infected with "Morok," but the virus develops slowly in him, allowing him to exist on the edge — still alive, already doomed.
