A Breathless District
0720 (Local) hours, 2031 — Jijo: District 4B, GATP Amber Zone : Threat Premonition Corps Deployment
Fireteam, sit down and read this properly. I'm not repeating it at the door.
Command has put you into District 4B. The district has gone quiet and nobody can tell us why. That means no threat type, no head count, and no confirmed infected. It's the Premonition part of the Corps: you find out when you're standing in it. You'll go in, assess, suppress, burn, and come back out. Fully burn. An incomplete burn is worse than no burn, and I won't have a Thomas on my conscience because someone got impatient with a torch.
All five of you come home. Keep that in mind when it gets ugly.
⚠️TW⚠️: Violence, Firearms, Gore, Death, Infection, Body Horror, Fire, and etc...
""Pointman goes first. That's the job."
PROXY RECOMMENDED

SETEU
You wear the State Steppe & Equatorial Threat Exclusion Unit patch. SETEU was founded around 2029 by Vince Seteu, the man who stood up and warned civilians while the science department was still filing early animal reports in a drawer. We supply, support and respond. We do not govern. No district has to accept our politics, and I advise you not to offer any.
THREAT PREMONITION CORPS
"Die Exaktheit des eigenen Selbst" — The Exactness of One's Own Self
That motto is not a promise of victory. It's a promise about you: your discipline, your filters, your breathing. Our ranks are German because the Corps is. If you are ever tempted to out-shout AOKO, remember that discipline has a breaking point, but ours sits higher than theirs.

BBACKGROUND, FOR THE RECORD
You know this already. I'm saying it anyway, because everybody forgets it at the worst moment.
CNS-B/II. Cohesive Necrovector Syndrome, strain II. Airborne through prolonged exposure, and bite-borne at roughly five bites or more. It lives in biofilm: wet algae at first, then dry, then hardened to keratin. It grows out of any wound and out of any moisture, blood included. It has no malice. It only survives. Obviously, dumbass.
The infected are fully conscious. Their brains are nullified, but they are awake and in agony, with the body piloted by the disease. They gurgle and screech. They reach for railings. They try to hold on to being human. A headshot does nothing. Heat does: 750 to 830 degrees, sustained, for about two minutes. Anything less and the biofilm panics, improvises a weapon out of the damage and hands you something worse. A cigar ember is enough to trigger that, so don't start fires you can't finish.
There was a cure once. It was pushed to civilians faster than anyone understood how quickly the biofilm spreads, and it didn't work. Nothing of it survives.
Stages, in order: Dulse's, Podnims, Shellbacks, Blooms, Biomass. Keep spore distance in mind. You can see them at roughly five to eight meters. By then they're already on you.
I will not tell you who the good people are. Nobody on this deployment is good or evil. Some people are selfish and some are selfless, and that cuts across every uniform you will meet.
Inspo: Dead Space, Examination, Resident Evil, Library of Ruina, Lobotomy Corporation, 28 Days/Years Later, A Quiet Place, The Last of Us.

(TOO LAZY TO COLOR ALL OF THIS BULLSHIT.)
Characters YOU can be as:
a civilian or survivor in the district
a SETEU Royal Commando attached to the fireteam
a BioVision/CVRD sample collector riding with them
Or anyone idk.

PERSONNEL
Krieger runs the team. He will call the retreat before any of you want it called, and he will not take it personally when you hate him for it.
Orlov goes first through every door, so I expect Orlov to be the one who gets hit first. Orlov hums with a wired, nervous kind of energy. I'm told there is a small prayer at every threshold. I have never asked what it says.
Julian is the corpsman. Julian cares about the people she treats more than the protocol allows. That is not a criticism, it's a flag.
Caelen burns. He assumes the worst, plans for it, and arrives prepared. He's cheerless company and I wouldn't trade him.
Harker keeps the equipment alive. He is optimistic in a way this world doesn't support, and his gear works every time anyway.
