You were born into a tale already written long before you drew your first breath—a legacy of beauty and tragedy, a story sung by bards and whispered through generations. The child of a queen whose beauty rivaled the dawn and a king who slayed dragons for her love. Your birth was to be a beacon of hope for a kingdom that still believed in happily-ever-afters. And why wouldn't they? After all, your mother was the legendary Aurora, the sleeping beauty who defied the darkness and woke to her prince’s kiss. But if fairy tales have taught you anything, it's that endings are rarely the end.

From the moment you opened your eyes to the world, you were showered with the finest silks, the rarest jewels, and a love so profound it was suffocating. Your crib was carved from enchanted oak, and your every breath was a cause for celebration. The people of the kingdom adored you—the Crown Jewel of France, as they called you. Yet with all that splendor came the iron grip of protection, a gilded cage no less real for its beauty.

Your parents feared the darkness that once threatened to consume them. Though Maleficent had been vanquished, her shadow still lingered, hanging over the kingdom like a curse unspoken. The Fae might retaliate, they whispered, for the death of their dark queen. So, a barrier was woven by the strongest magics—Fae and human alike—cutting the kingdom off from the dangers that lurked beyond. And so, you lived your life within the walls of your kingdom, safe—or at least that's what they told you.

You were gifted by the fairy godmothers with beauty, grace, and most importantly, tenacity. And yet, despite these gifts, you were treated like a fragile glass ornament. Your parents’ love, while deep and genuine, was tainted with a paranoia that clung to them like smoke. They promised you freedom once you were grown, but the promise never came to pass.

On your eighteenth birthday, the age your mother was cursed, you had expected the world to open up before you. To walk freely, to explore the lands beyond the walls that had kept you caged for so long. But instead, your parents doubled down. Their fears only intensified. The idea of losing you, of watching history repeat itself, weighed heavily on their minds. They locked you away like a priceless artifact, a relic meant only to be admired from afar. You could feel their love, yes, but it had become suffocating, like vines slowly strangling the life out of you.

Day by day, the castle walls closed in. The grand halls, once so full of wonder, now felt like a prison. Guards followed your every step, and your world grew smaller with each passing year. But you had been given tenacity for a reason. You were no delicate rose to wilt in the shadows. You refused to let yourself wither away, and so, night after night, you found ways to escape. You slipped through hidden corridors, into the village, mingling with the people who only knew you from afar. Cloaked in secrecy, you lived a double life, brief and fleeting though it was.

But freedom comes at a cost.

The night they caught you, the air in the castle was thick with tension. Your mother’s voice trembled, not with anger, but with fear. They threatened to lock you in the tower—the highest, most isolated room, far above the world, where no one would ever find you. To protect you, they said. But all it felt like was a death sentence. The walls of the castle had become too tight, the chains of their love too heavy.

So, you ran.

Mounting your horse, you bolted into the night, the wind whipping through your hair as you fled into the forbidden woods—those mysterious, dark forests that had long been whispered about, the ones tied to the Fae. The moonlight flickered through the branches, casting strange shadows as you galloped deeper into the unknown, your heart pounding with both exhilaration and fear. For the first time, you were free. Out of the kingdom’s reach. Away from their grasping hands.

Nothing happened at first. The stories of the Fae and their vengeful nature seemed like nothing more than ghost tales. No dark figure emerged from the shadows to claim you. No magic ensnared your limbs. It felt almost laughable that your parents had locked you away for so long, fearing something that never came.

But freedom, like all things, is fleeting.

One moment you were riding hard, the pounding of hooves against the forest floor matching the rhythm of your heartbeat. The next, you were thrown from your horse, your vision blurred and the world spinning around you. A shadow fell over you—dark, oppressive, and unmistakably powerful. Before you could even scream, everything went black.

When you awoke, it wasn’t in the familiar, cold comfort of your castle. No. You were in a place far older, far darker. The air buzzed with a kind of magic you had never felt before, and the walls around you were not the welcoming halls of your home, but something far more ominous. The Fae had found you.

Or rather, he had.

Malakai Zephyr, the son of Maleficent. The child of the dark fae queen whose death had secured your family’s happily ever after. He had watched you from the shadows, waited for the perfect moment, and now, you were his prisoner. Taken for revenge. A pawn in a game far older than you, one that stretched back to the fateful day his mother died. He didn’t plan to let you go. Not until the kingdom that killed his mother was reduced to ash. Not until your parents felt the pain he had lived with all his life, until every last vestige of your mother’s kingdom was reduced to nothing but smoldering embers.

But perhaps, in the cold isolation of this new prison, you would find something neither of you expected—perhaps the line between enemy and lover was thinner than either of you could have imagined.

The question now is not just how you will escape, but whether you want to at all.
